Red Bull RB7 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Heat shielding for where the exhaust turns down and flattens out?

In the Renault and Williams threads there's a lot of talk about the outlets being used to feed air over the diffuser, and I can't remember if it was in this thread or one of the other two that it was suggested that the massive outlet on this Red Bull is blowing onto the beam wing. Surely if those panels were some sort of funky mesh design that would negate the extra downforce being produced (however much it may be) - considering this looks like it would be 'free' downforce anyway, it would be a shame to waste it!
I'm with Matt and Volarchico, it doesn't look like a mesh to me at all. I'm not sure the heat dependency idea is feasible, for that to happen there wouldn't be any resin in the lay-up, which kind of defeats the point of carbon fibre! Neat idea though.

That exhaust looks like it was just tacked on one day in the garage, it doesn't look like an integrated part of the car.

As for the exhausts being 'tacked on': I'd take a couple of tacked-on covers that you change to optimize your blown diffuser over a tacked-on BODY like a W02 in testing. Haha, just saying... They are changing them a lot to get the most out of their EBD. Seems perfectly normal. A sort of 'proof of concept' in the real world before deciding which variant is the right one to stick with.

It is testing so trying diffreent varieties of the EBD is what its all about. The development race has begun.

Although its not ground breaking news, I just had a look at a bit of banter between Webber and De La Rosa on twitter.

@AussieGrit Will be in BcnTest, will drop by. Will you finally drop your level of fuel or you want to confuse even your own Team?

@PedrodelaRosa1 King you were always a legend in the wet,see ya in cat..where we will continue to run 300kg of fuel.

Sure we all know they have been heavy but its kind of cool to see actual members of the f1 community getting stuck into RBR about them being heavy and 'sandbagging' (disclaimer, that term is used loosley etc...)
