HRT F111 Cosworth

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

where is the logic?
Of all the new teams HRT was having the latest start to their season in 2010 and it was one of the reasons (apart from sticking to their Mk0 aero for the complete season)why the HRT was dead last on speed.
so this year again they are dead last in finishing their car ,in contrast to other teams this is owed to financial and technical turmoils -change of plans even wht to campaign in 2011!- no question competent people at HRT but it will be a struggle for speed again. They need to hope for Virgin or someone else to fail big time with reliability to make any inroads into securing 11th in constructors.also check the driver they employ ..Virgin with Glock and Ambrosio.. HRT is throwing away a few tenths in ultimate laptime already in having to go for the cashflow.

In US NASCAR racing there is a term "start and park" which refers to teams who qualify (barely) for a race and then have vauge mechanical problems just after the start of the race that force retirement.

The prize money for finishing last place is enough that the team owner can cover the expense of qualifying and still turn a net profit for the weekend. The key is to limit mileage on expensive disposables like the engine and the tires.

The "start and park" teams only need to put together a team/car/driver that can reliably qualify. There is no incentive to qualify high or race the whole distance (assuming you have no real sponser that needs TV exposure).

In F1 this year I don't think HRT have a serious chance of beating Team Lotus or Virgin in the constructors championship. Therefore I assume they will budget 2011 around their FOM money from last year and simply try to reliably qualify within 107% this year. I think this 107% target is pretty acheivable with a tiny budget and some competent people like Geoff Willis, etc.

If they take on a good driver like Liuzzi but the car gets reliably qualified by the pay driver (Karthenin?) then by mid-season Liuzzi will be replaced by a second pay driver.

This overall strategy allows the owners to keep going until they can profit from the team via a real sponsor or a buyer. If the team can succesfully cash flow this strategy then more power to them. I would consider them more financially astute in recent F1 than, say, Honda.

How very cynical! I;ve no doubt that this sort of thing goes on but it doesn't make it right.

While I was quite saddened when I heard that Honda were pulling out, I don't know if it's fair to question their financial accumen. They pulled out before it cost them too much. The sad thing is, had they stuck around they would now arguably be pretty much where Merc are, perhaps employing more staff and spending more money.

I do hope HRT will not become a "start and park" team, as I think they have potential, even if that potential is the possesion of a grid-slot, just a lack of funding to exploit it. I do wish they wouldn't mess around switching drivers every 5 minutes though...

Anyone have any shots around of the new HRT?

I saw these pictures (taken from the Barcelona tests), but don't know if they're the F110 or F111.

He's saying it's the F110. For starter's the livery isn't the F111 livery.

I don't remember it having such a large airbox opening though...

Hope they manage to survive the season and get a few decent races out of their car and drivers.

Thats the F110 with the intrim rear end on it, by intrim, the Williams gearbox fits into an area smaller than the Xtrac one, thus enabeling them to use their DDD on the Pirellis to gain data that should be transferable to the F111.

The only visible modification i can see is the heat shelding down-wind of the exaust exit.

The F111 is launched next week!!!

Hasn't the F111 already been launched? Just the car hasn't been ready for the tests yet.

Yes noticed how the rear end is a lot smaller than before, there is no other new bodywork on the car?

How do you know the F111 is launched next week?

I thought that HRT might have actually done some work this season, and got a car together and tested it, but it's looking like it did last year. Unless they're designing some kind of super F1 car, they're going to be trudging around at the back again. Not that anything else was expected from them.

Have you not seen any of the HRT news recently? Hispania's new car will be ready for the final test where ever that will be!

That's all well and good, but I think they should have been there for the previous tests, to get more data and fix problems before they occur in the season.
