What I find a little concerning is the fact how 'slow' the ARW deploys. Supposedly some teams let the ARW 'open' until breaking (I'm sorry I don't remember exactly where I read that) which triggers the reset.n_anirudh wrote:
Apologies if already posted
That would mean that if the car is travelling at say 360 km/h (100 m/s) and the resetting of the wing takes approx 0.2-0.3 seconds (estimate according to the video) that would leave the first 20 to 30 meters under breaking with following results:
1. Breaking is not 100% at first
2. A strong aerodynamic df shift towards the rear
3. If KERS kicks in to load that would increase the chance of lockup in the initial breaking phase (Although I guess this could be surpressed)
If you now assume that in a race you can only use it to pass an opponent, and the FIA are trying to make it as hard as possible, they are risking a overspeeding unstable car under breaking, probably not even on the ideal racing line.
I don't know what kind of balance shock would be generated, if the ARW can be set to deploy in 0.05 seconds, but I think that is what I would try to achieve.
Has anybody watched any other resetting of the ARW of other teams? Are they the same speed as the RB?
