Team Lotus T128 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The front wing last year was changed with the wing button, and since the Front Flap Activation is now banned, the teams have just changed the FFA with the DRS for this button.

Nice neat car design the team made here. Who is the chief designer? Not overly out of the blue but an excellent overall package. Like the front end, sidepod's as well as the rear. Think they can surprise this year or climb the ladder.

Ah, Mike Gascoyne. Always liked him, brings it down to the basics and makes the most out of everything with the smallest budget. Think he is quite good and often not appreciated enough.
Wonder how he would stack up when one would give him the same money and resource that Newey gets.

His talents where so wasted at Toyota with their ridiculous bloated and inefficient way of doing things (by F1 standards).

I hope Team Lotus does well, TF seems to have a real eye for talent and is great at running a lean mean machine (see air Asia for proof).

Fully agree with you. Toyota's mass production, Kazen event deal does not work when it comes down to through engineering, spirit and innovation.
Wonder if they learned something from that?
Go Mike G.

The Lotus T128 uses a similar RB7 gearbox, MG will be working to replicate the RB7 packaging through the season.

Request someone to post a RB7 T128 overlap as done for Mclaren

Eh? No. They use either the RB5 or the RB6 gearbox. Not the RB7 box.

Gascoyne himself does admit he is NOT excelling at designing cars.It was not his job at toyota it is not his job in lotus.
He has attracted key people from FI to Lotus (not Mr.Key).Gascoyne is the one who has the ability to position people within the group to maximum effect +sort out the disturbers...

Today Team Lotus tested with T128-03 as previously they had used T128-01. I can only asume that is Lotus now running with a full complemtnt of 3 chassis and is race ready for Oz. I think that 02 and 03 will be used in racing with 01 being the unbuilt T-Car.

Lots of trouble with fragile radiators, pushing the limits on lightness?

Not the first time their gearbox and power steering have failed, hope they can fix them. Then again the RB5 had reliability issues.

Has their front wing evolved at all? It looks very basic still.

The new wing might appear tomorrow.
