Williams FW33

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Unlike the Lotus-Renault, the FW 33 is a project that will undergo significant changes before and many of the opening race in Melbourne. For this, Barrichello and Maldonado, will surely benefit from this delay of 2 weeks. Williams will completely change many details of the car: rear, front wing, diffuser, brake ducts, baffles, and part of the body. KERS in these tests did not work very well for overheating problems. The Team will use this week to remedy the situation and use the best for the inaugural Grand Prix.

WILLIAMS
1.14,299 Maldonado Valencia 12 °
Jerez 1, 1.19,832 Barrichello
Barcelona 1.24,008 Barrichello 11 °
TOTAL 3,787 KM

I think that's just an older car that's there for the public. There's an old Williams on the right too...

So, more KERS issues keeping the car in the garage. Certainly disappointing, as I was hoping they'd sorted KERS in the time between now and the last test. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing more photos. Does anyone think in the photo above they have opened up the rear of the car for cooling?

Yes, that whole part of the car now appears to be open where it was almost fully closed at the last test.

Certainly looks like damage. Car stopped again today, and it's not running KERS. I'm so hopeful that they can get all reliability issues sorted before the first race, as the FW32 was extremely good on this front.

I think thats broken paint around an aperture made for an IR sensor. In early tests Williams ran a sensor strapped to the RTWB, I'd guess this replaces that, to measure tyre sidewall temperature

The metalwork behind the exhaust outlet seems to discolour and change to a matte finish rather a lot.

I wonder if this is an interim solution while they work up a temperature resistant part, perhaps some sort of ceramic coated CF?

I do not think the discolouration is any cause of concern...
The exhaust gases also contain burnt oil etc. that will generate a matt layer on the surfaces nearby, but it's just aesthetics.
