I also believe the L-shape sidepods also limit the amount of air flowing around the side of the car compared to the conventional sidepods, though they are trying something novel and unique by creating flow over the top to the beam wing i cant help but think the channel would add friction elements by increasing the surface area for flow to pass through, therefore creating more of a bounday layer effect.

It's sad that the beam wing is not even good to begin with. They need to raise it up off the crash structure.

That's even more confusing after Lewis said the handling was actually the best he has had in a few years, it's just aero where they are struggling.

Lewis says the same thing all the time. He always claims that every year is a step from previous years. Jenson said when he first drove the car, he wasn't thinking 'wow, this is good'. Just said that they had work to do. I think that's a lot more realistic than what Lewis portrays to the media.

As for the car, I'm wondering whether we'll see different exhaust configurations again for the remainder of this test, or perhaps they will finally settle with one and refine it? I hope for their sakes, they manage to get some good mileage in as they definitely could do with a lot.

So does that small black strip at the back of the last wing element still look like a gurney to everyone else, or is it actually a slot? I've tried to find a high-res image of the front wing so I could zoom in and check if you could see through, but I haven't been able to find one.

Interestingly (for me at least) the black strip only runs the length of the tyre.

I zoomed in to get a closer look but the clarity isn't much better. And aren't gurney flaps usually attached to the very edges?

Looks like a slot to me. You can see the shadow on the upper right inside face.

That's what I thought too, but last time I brought this up (a few pages back), the people who replied all said it was a gurney. I've been trying to patiently wait for a high-res photo to either see my mistake or be proven right.

Looks like a 'C' shaped gurney with the open face pointed forward.

I think it's a slot. You can see trough it. You can see light and dark particles down on tarmac trough the slot. The pattern is same.

Agreed! I was just hoping that by asking the question, someone with a really nice camera and access to get close would take a picture with enough detail that we could see what was going on there. [-o<

Not being stupid. I thought it was a slot until I read your question, now I'm not convinced. There is clearly a strake (or whatever the proper name is) under the front wing elements part way across the "slot" and you would expect to be able to see it through it if it was indeed a slot.
