Actually the chap on the bonnet is fed a diet of vindaloo and beans and forms part of the braking system. The idea is that the driver can brake later using the conventional brakes the pulls the chaps nose causing a fart thus providing backwards thrust. This system can also be used to improve front end downforce by varying the ferocity of the flatulance.

Only I could apply a fart to motor racing.
