F1 HD broadcasters?

Post

Hey all. I know this probably isn't the right place to ask, but I didn't know where else it should go. Does anyone know who are sending their stuff out to the world in HD? As I understand it some TV stations that sent out F1 last year aren't even HD capable yet. What happens to those guys?

More specifically to me, this sort of boils down to: Where in my home country can I watch F1 in HD? Sepcifically in Singapore and Indonesia

Your post prompted me to research UK broadcasts. The BBC is switching my area to HD on 30 March.

Only hitch is that I'll need to get a HD receiver. Heh ho - it still a lot cheaper than satellite and fewer channels saves me from watching too much TV!

Yes exactly. The local broadcaster in Indonesia here (which claims to be broadcasting in HD) doesn't even do normal TV in HD :wtf:

I'm thinking most of the channels that are in HD will just upgrade their broadcasts of F1 to HD, no?

Those of you in the UK might find this website useful.

Enter your postcode into this webpage, and it will tell you which transmitters you should be able to receive from, and when (if not already) HD via antenna will begin. London (Crystal Palace) started broadcasting HD some time ago, and I can confirm that I recieve BBC1HD, BBC HD, ITV-HD and Channel4-HD via a freeview HD PVR (Humax FoxT2)

But I am yet to hear anything definitive on whether the Beeb will be broadcasting ALL race events this year in HD, or if some will be only SD?

In the US- Speed channel owns broadcast rights to F1. They will be providing the feed in HD to cable and satelite providers but then each provider will rebroadcast in a format that is market based. For Example- Comcast Xfinity will broadcast Speed channel in HD to some markets, and SD for others.

I'm in the New England region and have spent most of this week been trying to get answers from Comcast ahead of the Australian GP. It seems in the Northeast- NO HD for us.

HD doesnt really bother me to much to be honest. sad as it may seam but i have my pc linked to my 60" tv with over lapping tabs. One on live timing. One of the driver tracker on the bbc website. and the other the live coverage on the BBC website. its no much more to watch as you can build a better picture of the race. I've got to the point where i watch the race through the live timing rarther than the live feed. On the web beebs website its only a low def picture and i'm happy with that. If they do alow it to go high def then i'll roll with it although i could see if being laggy over the web with all 3 pages open as i'm only getting around 40mb broadband speed

I actually follow live timing on my F1 timing app on my iPad, then my 65" TV is playing the race. HD will only improve it a little, but it's the little things.

I remember how much better football became when they switched to HD, I'd assume that F1 will see the same happen. Now if they could somehow capture the sound better.
