I had no idea Luxury Racing switched to Risi-style bumper at the last moment.

Are they measuring pressure inside the wheel well ?

is possible,
but by the look of the sensors, I would say tire temperatures
inside - middle - outside of the tire.
if you zoom into the photo, you will see, that there are small holes in the carbon bonnet for the beam to "look through"

2D - IR temp sensor

here an example from Moto GP

I would say it has to do with wheel well airflow and pressure, as its possition is just in front of the louvres. You can hardly place a rack system there to measure this airflow.

Difficult to say.
By the look of them I thought immediately about tyre temp sensors too, but then why put them there while they could easily be located somewhere inside the bodywork?

unless you use a bracket/frame behind the wheel which turns with the wheel, for which you don´t have enough room in the case of the R18, you need to/should mount the sensors in line with the steering axis, otherwise you won´t measure at the same point, when the tire turns --> e.g. the outer or inner sensor would "see" outside the tire thread.

Add to this, that you need a minimum distance for the sensor to work, and you maybe have your answer.

The R18 does not has inner wheel arches (as the DTM car had/has), therefore there are some limitations, where you can mount the sensors.

Image

if you have a look at this photo in HiRes, you see the holes for the sensors in the front bonnet, but closed with alu tape, the car in the background has the sensors mounted

BTW, a possible design for the R18 ??

I expect the roof to be either silver or chrome. The back version they initially used in testing already proved too hot, so they put some chrome coating on the bare CF car.

But I must cay, I do like this version a lot.

LMS Paul Ricard Qualifying Results:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90400

Rebellion Lola-Toyota on pole....AMR-One close to 6 sec off the pace, not a diesel in sight...

For a team who b*tches a lot about equivalence with the diesel, their car is not even on the same planet as far as pace is concerned....ACO will need to strap boat anchor on the Peugeot and Audi to make them slow enough that Aston can beat them, and at that point HPD will just win...

Well now, this is fantastic. Check out the AMR-One's radiator duct!

Interesting start at Paul Ricard! The pace car never pulls off the track, GT style chaos ensues.

Hopefully Aston's unique design performs well for them. I was reading they have been on the slow side in testing.

This shot gives a good view of how high the nose is & how much internal ducting they have for cooling and front diffuser:

Compared to a more traditional design:

At first I thought they had a really narrow v6, but looking closer, it appears they have a wide angle v6 with topside exhausts. Look at the cam cover in the 2nd pic. Very cool! An amazing batch of cars running Le Mans this year.
