You do not 'hang' a flag, ensign or jack, you 'fly' it.

The union flags displayed at a GP can only be described as banners, as they would be for any public non official event outside the UK.
To 'fly' the union flag officialy needs permission.
This is why in most cases in the UK it is the St George cross that is displayed, and the other crosses for the other countries within Great Britain.

Pandamasque, I don't get your philosophy.

The thread is about flags which are symbols of nations.

That is why I think that flags pained on fighter planes, tanks, embroiled on uniforms, and waved by those who commit crimes such as previously mentioned, shouldn't be part of F1 that was always informal circus, promoting cosmopolitanism, sportsmanship, human virtues and knighthood.

I agree but until we get the independance that Labour promised in the late-90s then this won't change, and the same goes for Wales and Ireland.

Something I've noticed (certainly on the BBC and in the English press) is that when an English driver does something well, they are English. When they are not prerforming, they are British. But when a Scottish driver is doing well, he is Brisish, yet when he is not doing well he is Scottish.

I would like the national anthems to be dropped. Without meaning to cause offense, God Save the Queen and Deutschlandlied are both really depressing. Far too somber for celebrating a race win!

They could play Scotland the brave for all the losers Andrew.
Sorry it was only a joke, I couldnt resist. I am not trying to start another civil war. I love Scotland especialy the highlands.
IMO national rivalry can be very healthy and can develop better results.
The current American based model of commercial profit at any cost literaly makes me ill.

Tell you what, how about you try running "your" country without the big chunk of cash sent up from England each year. Let's scrap the Barnett Forumla and see how far Scotland (and NI for that matter) get.

In fairness, I'd make London independent too - they act as if they are the only bit of the UK that matters anyway... :(

I find it easier to think of it as:
Union Flag clockwise
German and Russian flag anti clockwise

I prefer clockwise, it's how you read the book spine on bookshelf.

Symmetrical, so it could never be wrong. Just like the Swiss flag

So why is it back to front on the back side?

Good point. It could be hung back to front, but clockwise or anti clockwise wouldn't be a problem.

So is the Swiss flag the only that is never incorrect?
