Team Lotus T128 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

All teams have been using tape every single race-weekend for decades.

It is nothing to do with bodge-jobs or last minute fixes. Quick, light and does exactly the job it is required to without significant side-effect.

Why overcomplicate something so simple.

Tape is convenient, yes, but a better shaped choke would certainly create less pressure drag. (Convex wall of tape vs smooth, teardrop shaped leading edge body)

Sort of like this, but imagine smaller and in closer proximity to the brake duct opening:

You could choke off flow at higher speeds and still have a nice streamlined shape.

Like it has structural element inside with a skin on the outside?
As if to say, for example, that perhaps the nose cone contains some sort of material that might assist flexing under load?
Team Lotus seems to be the only team at the moment with the flexi-nose like Red Bull, as was visible from photo comparison with all the cars lined up ni full speed.

Very interesting observation nacho. I think you could very well be onto something here. Certainly wouldn't be shocked if you turned out to be right at least.

I apologize if my search was not thorough enough, but would you be able to attach a link to this photo please?

Cannot find the photo anymore! It was a side comparison with lines drawn of the front wing and RB and TL seemed the only cars with pivoting. I might have been dreaming then.

According to Kovalainen, new more robust radiators are fitted to the car this weekend, which are slightly heavier.

I presume that'll be for the heat of Sepang, as we didn't see any problems last time around anyways

No it is for the previous ones were failing and started leaking, like in Melbourne for Kovalainen.

I'd say they've done a great job. To be running mid 38's today was a real result. Another second and they are in true mid-field going by qualy today. They gapped Virgin and HRT properly now. Their new floor/blown diffuser should be ready soon. =D>
