Wasnt that supposed to be carbon bonding failure somewhere deep in the chassis? (too much kerb bashing? )
It was supposedly a crack of some sort in the chassis. And to answer your previous question, there is already a separate thread for this: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9789

After reading DeepThroats comments it sounds to me like the Inerter* (basically works like spinning top toy in a tube providing a Tuned mass damper style effect without being illegal as the "mass" is fixed in place and spins instead of moving backwards and forwards) failed as it's the most like component to "seize up" in this scenario.

It's pi$$ poor that RBR didn't find and fix this before qually! :(

Couldn't find this thread till i was pointed in the right direction so i'll re-post here:

This doesn't appear to have been mentioned on F1T but according to DeepThroat (an RBR mechanic) over at the RBR forum, it was a seized rear centre spring that effectively stiffened the rear of Marks car almost to the stage of being un-drivable hence his lack of pace compared to Seb and significantly worse rear tire wear.

as is pi$$ poor that they didn't catch Vettel's chassis defect before Monaco qualy, or the anti-roll spring damage before Turkey qualy. Or his brake failures. RBR don't seem to have a solid QC base since Geoff Willis left

So hopefully now that they found this, there will be two fully functional cars for this Saturday/Sunday!

New comments from Horner today. He said that Webber's setup was not not nearly as good as Vettel's so that's where the lack of pace in S3 and high tyre usage came from.

Right now, Webber should just forget about his pride and stick to using Whatever Vettel is using. That is the only way to play when your rival is regularly faster than you. If I were Webber I would just go into the weekend saying "Boss, I'll have whatever he's having!"

Just to provide some closure to this topic: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/2564 ... or-sepang/

Looks like they found that Mark was lost on setup :?

Slightly confusing, given that they (Mark & Seb) usually steal the others' setup anyways if one is lost.

It's probably more like if Mark is struggling he can find his own set up, but if Seb is struggling, they'll just give him Marks set up. Mark said something along those line in an interview conducted on Australian television last year.

Not true. There have been times in the past when he has openly admitted he has "gone Seb's way" on the setup.

He should have gone Seb's way in Melbourne that's for sure. I need Mark to take points away from Vettel. He can't just lay idly by and Watch Vettel run way with the championship!
