It is artifical as passing should be done on the track, not in the pitlane with the aid of tyres with a ridiculously high rate of degredation.

so put them on the right time and try to manage them better. that's my view.

Alonso & Hamilton both penalised 20sec! 1 for collision, the other for weaving when being passed..

Hasn't affected Fred at all in 6th, whilst Lewis drops behind Kobayashi for 8th now.

Time to argue this one over ppl.. (I'm betting 3 new threads due to this )


Personally, both didn't deserve a penalty. Let them race & make mistakes. Alonso only hurt his own race, and Lewis screwed his own pace due to the rear damage. That's penalty enough.

What the hell? When did Hamilton weave? And why the hell does Alonso deserve to be penalised for something that affected him far worse than it did Hamilton?

Hamilton loses a place to 8th. Alonso stays 6th as he is (after Ham's penalty) 20s clear of the next runner anyways.

He WAS second, he IS second. That's really unfair, so like no penalty.

Alonso's move was just complete brain fade but it was an avoidable accident so a penalty is fair. The severity is maybe questionable.

Just watched the end of lap 44 through to where Hamilton and Alonso had an on-track meeting on lap 46. The only thing I could see was Hamilton having a slight wobble coming out of turn 15 at the end of lap 45 but hardly enough to call it weaving, more positioning than anything. The run down to turn 1 on lap 46 was shown on the BBC looking backwards from Alonso's car so there may have been something there. Does anyone have any footage of the run down to turn 1 on lap 46?

Well, i think LH agressive driving style was reflected today in his race pace, this car and tires are JB face.

Thanks andartop. So Hamilton goes left, then slightly to the right then left to get the line for turn 1.

Penalties are fair but the severity is perhaps slightly harsh but the rules are clear on weaving and avoidable accidents.
