Williams FW33

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

What's that apparatus sticking out above the gearbox? Upside down Y shaped.

It is actually quite long (zoom right in on the picture). It is the base of the column that holds the upper suspension A brackets with the wing stay fitting above it.

I took it to be a gearbox oil heater.

Well, this is the day of reckoning for the Williams rear end concept, I think. If it doesn't work with an RBR style exhaust then I can't see how it is going to work. Here's hoping it gives them the turn of speed they require.

I wouldn't say the car is lacking speed, it is that it is lacking the reliability. The race pace is really really good, how Barrichello could slam throuh the field in Melbourne showed that the car is quick, it is only too fragile.

That's a double diffuser!

(OK OK, but it DOES look like they slapped two together back to back. Interesting!)

Had an Idea like this for years.. but I just didn't think it was legal. Very glad to see how aggressive Williams is going.. very hard indeed! Reminds me of Renault last year, hope they can keep on top of the complexities.

I had high hopes for Williams this year with their new gearbox. They have failed so far to bring points to the table. I hope they can sort out their issues and turn it around.

New exhausts don't seem to be an improvement at all. Staff changes are ungently needed, bye Sam.

Proves conclusively that copying a single component doesn't work in Formula 1.
