they can't change to softer compounds after quallifying. i'm sure the rules guys will be able to quote chapter and verse.

maybe michael just started with a bad set of tires because he was pretty quick on his second set.

I am pretty sure they can't change compound after quali. The rule this year allow them not to nominate tire on Friday, but the moment quali starts the compound is fixed. And before the Aussie weekend anyway they were quoted saying the test they had in Europe was interrupted by weather.

On a side note, anyone noticed the flex in the renault front wing? The trailing edge was visibly moving with speed.....nothing as obvious as Ferrari's but it certainly wasn't completely rigid.....

yep, it was flexing a little, but nothing compared to last year. Both front and rear wing have a little range to flex (3mm in front and 5mm in rear)

...hey man, i noticed too. im suprised no one else has mentioned it, infact it was very obvious, the whole lower portion of the front wing was bending down significantly... did anyone else see this?

I did!
Well, since it wasn't from a red car I do not expect anyone to notice it...

Still no way of knowing if the wing made a difference - we probably won't know unless they go back to the 1st two tracks and have another race  If the fly at Imola, no-one will be surprised.......

I think MS's pace picked up at the tyre change simply because he was able to put a set on that were already thoroughly cooked up to a nice temp in the pits...........I reckon, like JB, he lost heat under the SC periods.

On the front wing issue - did anyone spot what was different? The upper element inner location now has a shroud, so even if the wing does flex, the cameras won't see it...............

It's legality was not in question, now it's a case of "what the eye doesn't see..."

I thought it was a rigid link, but now that I think about it, it could very well be a shrud.....

Certainly would justify their reasoning of "performance modification"...

Are you sure you're not mixing flexing with vibrating? If if was flexing I'm sure that otehr teams would be all over Renault but I haven't heard about any suspicion.

That was definitely flexing, initially I thought it might have been vibration but you can see it clearly that the angle of the letter on the car was changing on the trailing edge of the front wing as it effectively flatten out on the straight(flatten out is an exxageration, obviously)....

nothing surprising at all, as I said and many have before, it would be stupid not to design those part to the limit to take advantage of the rule, its just Ferrari's car was more obvious than others....

Brilliant.

You can't see it clearer then that.

i was just going to reply to manchild's vibration question, but the pic speaks for itself!.. if someone can get a small animated .gif or video clip of it, that would be great... not that we need it, but just a thought! 8)
