Le Mans Regs.

Post

Does anyone know where I can find the Le Mans style Sports Car dimension regulations?

I am trying to design an Audi R10 type vehicle on my CAD.

Thanks.

For a Le Mans Prototype ("LM"P1) car, which would be better:

Shorter wheelbase with longer overhangs or the other way around.

Yeah, I saw most teams had gone for a shorter wheelbase, but what advantages/dissadvantages are there in wheelbase length?

Cornering ability basically. the longer the wheelbase the poorer the cornering ability but the shorter the wheel base the better the cornering ability. think of a limo and a mini the polar opposites of each other.

There are still disadvantages with a shorter wheel base though. like weight distribution for example. it can be much harder to balance weight if you have larger overhangs and this can also contribute to cornering ability.

Le Mans cars also have rule regarding to how much overhang you can have, as with anything this gives you room to work with aero wise. The "new" regulation as published in 04 reduced the overhang allowed along with other requirement in a bid to kill downforce but more importantly reduces the pitch and yaw sensitivity of the cars....

I have all the rules here.

Basically my thory was to have a 3m wheel base for greater stability down the straight, but most teams have gone for the shortest possible.

I was just wondering what advantages that would bring.

Thanks all.
