McLaren MP4-26 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I dont think so...unless there are now 0 slots in the end plate now!! There has been only 1 endplate hole for sometime now, back as far as Aus for sure

on launch day there were 3, will take me longer to dig up aus/sepang/china photos.

Nope – you're right, at aus there was only 1 slot, testing photos still show 3... Guess I must have missed that change.

Best I can do.

where's the lump part at the top of the radiator?
Image

It looks like a normal radiator now without the L lump. I guess this may be part of what whitmarsh was talking about when he said the car has too much cooling.
For Sure!!

I guess that lowers the centre of gravity pretty nicely. Surely if they can do that they could also widen the L-channels though – makes me wonder if it's not actually changed – we can't see the radiator properly from that shot.

Interesting pair of strakes underneath the front wing there

I assume it would reduce drag too as the air will be able to flow by instead of hitting the radiator.

Just noticed the exhaust on this – looks like they've packaged it into the floor now, rather than sitting just above.

It also looks like they've lifted the manifold and created much tighter packaging at the rear.

Indeed. They have also tidied up the rear facing side of the radiator, tucking it right in.

We've always thought there would be tighter solutions at the rear when they decided upon an exhaust system. Glad to see they have managed it.

Bigger upgrade than I was expecting anyway.

"McLaren have a new rear wing, exhausts and floor parts at the rear," explained Kravitz.

"There are a few tweaks but we do understand that there are many more changes underneath the skin in terms of braking and suspension.

"And the drivers said you have to watch out for what we're bringing at the next two races, which should put them right up there with Red Bull."
So, that's the floor and exhaust confirmed =D>

Rear wing .. interesting. Lots of new rear wings this year from everyone, so there's obviously a lot to be made of either DRS or some regulation that people are tapping into.

And finally, braking and suspension. If anyone spots anything obvious...

The rear wing just has a curved lower plane as can been seen in the shot above. No major change to the DRS, they still have that huge flap. They switched between a curved and straight lower plane last year a few times as well. Interesting stuff.

The lower plane was curved at release (as can be seen on this page) :)
