For the Video Gamers

Anyone know Mordin Solus? If so, speak in forum just like Mordin. Make forum interesting, many people make confusing discussion with large words, improper syntax, very entertaining. Anyone else speak like Mordin?

Do you mean this guy?

If so, I'm not too sure I know what you mean by talking like him?

But since I've just seen the clip above, I then had to look up Tom Lehrer's Elements song:

Which leads on naturally to the original song, The Modern Major General from Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance:

Yeah, that's Mordin. One of my favroite characters in all the video games I've played, ever. His dialogue is hilarious, straight forward, intelligent, and simple. Look him up on youtube. He's in normal dialogue when he sings that song, but otherwise he has a very unique way on communicatng. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Hey, everyone, could you state your favorite game and your reasons for liking it? One of my utmost favorites is Half Life 2. It is a semi-horror game, and it FPS action is fun. It's almost like a modern zelda game, as it has puzzles and traps. Also, the guns are soooo fun. The gravity gun is my favorite. And the enemies are badass when you turn the difficulty up. And easy on easy.

Another great game is Halo Reach. It is so fast, and the controls are perfect. The weapons and enemies are excellent. There is one big flaw, tho. The enemies never run out of ammo, and they don't make mistakes. Unless It's an ally driving for you. They'll go right off a cliff. But otherwise, It's the best designed game I've ever played. In the first Halo; Combat Evolved, the flaws where averywhere. Elites would get stuck in the ground, their jaws would super-extend, and it was on a PC. Now, it has been so thoroughly refined into such a fantastic gaming legend, the flaws are few, but amazing. Like on Halo Reach Fails of the Weak, sometimes a vehicle will randomly fly off into the distance. It's hilarious.

Well... I'm not the gamer I once was, but from my heyday...
Jumping Flash 2! One of the first 'immersive world' games. Also... Tekken 3... Tobal 2... Metal Gear Solid- started a genre.

And of course, racing games! Ridge Racer and Rage Racer. Love me some Namco! 8)

I've never heard of those games. Could you give me a description?

I've mostly played the newer games for the XBOX 360, but I have played several classic games for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Nintendo 64, Nintendo GameCube, and a little on the Wii. I've played very few computer games, which include; Unreal Tournament 2000, Unreal Tournament 2004, F.E.A.R., Ghost Recon (the old one), 4x4 Evo, and Dig Dug Deeper.

They are all games for playstation, my all-time favorite system!

Jumping Flash 2 you play as a robo-rabbit, and you jump around a landscape, shooting stuff, collecting items, jumping on enemies. But it was one of the first games where there was an open 3d world that you could explore, much like Mario 64, except Mario 64 still kind of corralled you in the direction you had to go, but Jumping Flash was more open.

Image

and when you jumped (you could jump very high and double jump, or use trampolines), the camera would shift downward, so you could aim where you fall.

Image

Tekken 3 and Tobal 2 are both 3d fighting games

Tekken 3:

You must have heard of Tekken- its a classic fighting game series, lots of gameplay depth, nice graphics, nice endings and nice music.

Tobal 2:
Image
Tobal 2 was never released in America, I got the Japanese version, but it had special shaded 3d graphics that were very nice and uncommon in most games, it also featured a unique fighting system, interesting characters, computer animated endings, great music, and a role playing mode where you can run around in a dungeon and fight with the characters and collect items and gain levels and so on (virtually unplayable because of the language barrier!!). The game also featured unlockable characters you could play with including all the monsters from the dungeons- mostly a novelty feature, but still quite cool.

Around this time I became interested in who the game developers were and started following the ones that I liked. Tobal was developed by Squaresoft, who also made the Final Fantasy series, and Tekken was developed by Namco, who also made Ridge Racer and Rage Racer(Ridge Racer 3; Ridge Racer 2 was called Ridge Racer Revolution, which I never played):

Image
Ridge Racer came bundled with the playstation, and was the first true 3d game I played for any home console. It is simple, has 3 variations of the same track, but it featured great music, cool replays and fun gameplay that let you really whittle down your lap times.

Image
This is Rage Racer. Basically an arcade style racing game (as opposed to simulator style). It had lots of cars you could race with and a few different tracks. It had lots of graphical touches, like helicopters flying overhead, waterfalls and stuff like that.

I mentioned following developers, and I have to mention the game that got me into F1!! I became interested in a developer called Psygnosis that made a game called Wipeout and Wipeout XL which were futuristic hovercar racing games. They also included lots of graphical touches like light trails, and great music, including songs by Prodigy and Future Sound of London (at that time only recently possible due to the shift to CD based games). Wipeout also featured an ad campaign by a certain 'drinks company'!!
Image
I remember playing this game and thinking to myself, 'what IS redbull?' That was around '95-'96, before RedBull was released in the US, or at least before it became popular. At least they have always identified with racing :)

Wipeout and Wipeout XL:
Image

Image

Well Psygnosis eventually developed the first true Formula 1 game for a home console!
Image
It featured all the tracks in the season, exactly how they are in real life, and it included a 'season' mode where you could compete as if you were racing in the championship itself! I never did a season, but I am still proud of myself to this day because I did complete an entire race distance at Interlagos! The game would actually race for 60-some odd laps of the actual lap time, so I sat down racing the same track over and over for an hour and a half! The track layout is still burned in my mind!

I had never been exposed to F1 before, and I was intrigued by it's unusual combination of seemingly manicured racetracks with grass and kerbs, and the strange high-pitch whine of the cars. I started watching races and caught the battle between Hill and Schumacher in 96! I loved it, but as I was a teenager, it lost my attention in competition with other things...

Well, I hope that is enough detail
It's nice to revisit these 'old friends'

Thank you Jeffsvilleusa. I've never owned any playstation, it's always been Nintendo, so I don't know how the games are, But I have plenty of experience playing Forza Motorsport 2 and 3(For XBOX360). My favorite race is the Class-B World Champoinship series, but in particular it's the Maple Valley Raceway reverse. Oh, I love pushing a Lotus Exige to it's utmost limit, taking every turn like a missile. The Exige is the best car off the line, and if I can get to the first turn before the melee starts, I can win. On that track, even on maximum difficulty, I can beat them gloriously! Each race goes on for an agonizing 45-47 minutes, and one slip always ruins the race. But Forza 3 adds even greater challenge with the manual/with clutch. And rewind! Thank you Forza!

I almost never turned on any assists, TCS, SCS, ABS, assist line, no assists whatsoever. Only once have I completed a race with TCS on, and that was when I raced in a Ferrari F4333 (I think) F1 car. That car has so much power, and the torgue kick in really hard, so even with the widest rear tires in the game, it still can get very loose at low speeds. I'm not the best driver, I can't beat a race higher than Class B on max difficulty, I have to turn down the AI difficulty, but anything at or below Class B I can beat on maximum difficulty.

And my favorite vehecle on Forza 3 is the Lotus Exige, hands down.
