Mercedes GP W02

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

True. But still, I think anyone of us armchair F1 engineers dreams of working with Ross Brawn and Michael Schumacher. How awesome would it be if one of us landed the job?

Getting back to the topic of the car, did anything filter about updates for Monte Carlo or are we in the dark once more?

Somehow, Merc keeps us talking about hypothetical updates and nothing really new ever comes...

The new McLaren style airbox intakes are new.

On the McLaren they are used for Gearbox, I think they're just for some extra airflow on the Merc though.

To be fair isnt it a Williams style intake? :)

It just annoys me that they are trying to fix the cooling problem instead of making the car go faster and effect making the car slower. When are we going to see you introduce something MGP!

Due to my calculation the shorter wheelbase is worth something around 0,3 seconds a lap just by improved acceleration performance.
Plus 0,1 seconds for the starts.

Assuming everything else stays constant of course.

they need to improve ...that´s what they want to do.If cutting a hole into the bodywork is helping them I´m for it.Maybe they can close some holes in other areas.

mep,
you come up with a number ??? I´m surprised.
Unfortunatelly the W02 does not know anything about this and prefers to eat its rear tyres at an alarming rate..At least I have not the impression that W02 is a car wich is outstanding in the forward traction department

I'm pretty certain the advantage is not 0.3 seconds. Maybe a tenth if they are lucky.

I guess, it just looked more like McLaren's the way it goes all the way round the top :D

The cooling updates have given them performance because they can run uncompromised in the aero department while finishing the race.

And Nico was 3rd best in openening practice, 0.5 seconds down. I expect a close front, with Nico up towards the pointy end. Schumacher crashed, not sure how bad the damage was.

They`re trying to fix the cooling problems with the scorched bodywork at the back of the (only) Rosberg`s car.

Interesting to know why Michael`s car haven`t had the same issue ...

Holy body slots batman! Must not be much of a hit since the drag penalty at Monaco is usually small.

The W02 is looking very very good on mid to high fuel loads.

Just saw Nico pump in a 1:19.7 around 4 seconds off the pace, but that Mercedes didnt display anything untoward during the run, leading me to think its well sorted for the weekend.

Watching Alonso in the Ferrari is traumatic! He is quicker but thats him carrying the car...I could be wrong....
More could have been done.
