Ideally, the goal is to construct a one piece monocoque chassis. But construction difficulties may force the engineers to design the monocoque from more than one piece, and bond those pieces together. In the aviation industry, parts are bonded together by one of three separate methods. Bolt the pieces together, bond them with an adhesive, or cocure them together.
Attachments between fiber composite structural elements have, for the most part, been made with bolts. In some cases, adhesive bonds have been used, in much the same manner as with metal parts. More recently, the layups for two or more parts have been joined in the curing process Û this is called cocuring.
