Mr. E has expressed desire for the formation of an American Team, and recently Chip Ganassi has emerged as the most likely to make the jump. It seems to me that even with G's considerable open wheeled experience, it would take major backing from an American automaker (i.e. Ford/Cosworth) to even have a chance in the F1 world. Toyota/Panasonic have invested over a billion dollars in three years and have only a few points to show for it.
It's unfortunate to me that Bill Gates seems to have no interest in motorsport, as Microsoft would appear to be the door to knock on for sponsorship. They already have worldwide product recognition and the money in the bank. I don't know if I'd want XP running the onboard CPU's, though. Then again, as it says, I am a Mac Man and Fan (macintosh and Maclaren, both).
On a similar line, who owns Lotus these days? Is it GM? Mr. E has dropped hints about GM, and if they own Lotus it seems a crime to not use that avenue for an entry. Instant brand recognition, not to mention a very rich heritage in the sport.
