The FIA have today confirmed that the blown diffuser row has been settled, with all teams agreeing to continue running blown diffusers to the Valencia regulations. No other rule changes in this area will be imposed during 2011 while their complete banning is set for 2012.

does any one else see how easy this is to work around? No throttle of spark retarding. NO problem hold the throttle slightly open have a lever to change the fuel map each corner. Or drive against the brake in a corner. You could even charge the KERS.

This should make for very consistent braking or does the driver select neutral?

Do we have any data on the typical F1 engine throttle map? How much off throttle time on average are we talking about?
Any ideas for using exhaust gases when the exit is at the rear only? (if 2012 regs indeed specify this) Seems like its been a while since I last saw exhausts exit at the back of the car.
I'm think maybe interacting with the gurney flap/diffuser flap, or playing with the sweep/angle of the pipes to aim the exhaust at the rear tire wake or aiming at the vortices leaving the diffuser (can they be effectively energized to increase the effect of air being pulled out of the diffuser?).
Can an EBD effect be maintained when the interaction is only with the air exiting the diffuser?
According to james allen this ban will be effective from silverstone onward... quite sudden i would say. Honestly i think its stupid if they want to ban somthing it should be the ban of DRS during qualifying...

I can sympathise with that desire (don't think it will happen it' the FIA's baby) but I reckon the only reason that Red Bull can use the DRS more in quali is because the off throttle blown diffuser is perfected to help them in those medium and high speed corners and provide a good platform for initiating the wing sooner than the rest.
Became a McLaren fan in the late 70's when I ended up laminating their Kevlar nosecones.
Hey, I'm a noob to the forum! Been reading for a couple of days and really enjoying a lot of the clever chat you chaps are having!
Like a lot of you are already saying, I think it is a bit of a joke to ban something mid-season. It will undoutedly have a negative effect on some of the teams and is essentially the FIA deliberately trying to alter the outcome of a championship as it looks a bit too one sided at the moment.
I'm a Vettel fan, have been since he appeared briefly at BMW. I'm really enjoying the racing this season and can't help but feel that a lot of exciting races are still to come as the pack close in on Seb, which they will, it is the nature of the sport.
Fingers crossed for a sensible outcome! However I fear there will only be one...
Not really, they'll be aware of the benefit to themselves but not relative to others. Given McLaren's sudden rise to form pre-season I think they'll all stand to lose similar lap time.

We kind of new that already, but what would be really interesting is who is behind the FIA deciding to review the use of the EBD.
It seems strange that the FIA were happy enough with the system at the start of the season but now they want to ban it. Smacks of a team of teams kicking up a stink, either that or it is a plain old FIA screw up and they deemed something to be legal that should never have been.
So this won't be at Silverstone? Could be interesting. Wonder if the teams will keep the exhausts where they are and just put up with a slight loss of downforce, or if they will move the exhausts somewhere else.
It reminds me of the whole Double Diffuser thing in 2009. Three teams had it then once Brawn had a healthy advantage it was all of a sudden legal.
It was plain to see that Brawn would not have been champions without this gift from the FIA, by the way they went backwards once all the other teams had the DD.
That stunk and the EBD ban stinks.
For me, rule changes should only be implemented mid-season on ground of safety or in extreme situations.
As for the smaller teams, I'm not sure if they have enough clout alone, besides I think Lotus and Virgin are working on their own versions which just leave teh likes of HRT and Williams. I think there was certainly input from either the red corner, the grey corner or the silver corner.

DD was always legal, teams questioned it but i think around the 3rd race the FIA confirmed legality.
