Robert Kubica has today informed Lotus Renault GP that he will not be ready for the start of the 2012 season, despite having started an intensive training programme. Let's not be too hasty. His muscles are probably not strong enough at the moment. He'll sooner or later recover most(if not all) of his arm function, and be able to train properly. We'll see after that.

The hand is being kept in that contorted position to help preventing the hand being contracted - I don't know the medical term , but it takes a shape resembling the posture of a chimp hand -( absolutely no offense intended.)
This can be the result of permanent full or limited use of the arm and hand, causing contraction of the muscles and reducing joint movement .
Keeping the hand stretched out keeps the muscles extended, all part of the long term rehabilitation
These images are encouraging, most of the healing seems complete. The next step of his recovery will be rebuilding the muscle on that arm, it's certinaly looking a bit skinny!

Yep, you are right. Rehabilitation is focused on building up muscle mass and its strength. The leg is no longer a worry, if his right arm will be fit enough then we will se him in race. When? Already in this season.

In the picture, I'd probably guess that his arm is kept in that position for the tendons to heal. Probably meant to keep them loose so they don't heal too tightly.
Well as long as the nerves are fine, he can recover. Though the muscles seem very damaged.
Id love to see him race as soon as possible, but on the whole, I think it might be better to see him next year, as a 100 % ready championship contender, rather than 80% ready this year.
