P.U.R.E Appointment

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Well dragon, this time somebody did believe in Pollack, as there is obviously funding for his engine project from somewhere?

More evidence of trust and faith is the fact that Gilles Simon came straight from the FIA without gardening leave or anything.
Think about it, who would have the clout to pull off such a stunt?

My educated guess is that said someone is VW.

If by a magical miracle VW is behind this, the smart move would be to badge it as a Porcshe

Personally I don't see VW behind this. Nor would Porsche, an engineering led company of very high standard... Entrust this venture with there name on it. Just my 2 cents there.

As for Gilles Simon, it's interesting how this man knows every single engine builders facilities, staff and tech like the back of his hand.
What he can use that for application at PURE remains to be seen.
But I think the shift from v8 to v6 turbo will mean vastly different animals than we see today.

He will have to be extra careful not to use any 'tricks' from the established engine guys as he is going to be under very tight scrutiny from everyone.

The FIA knows what he knows, and can easily look for it in their IP.

So JET, your thoughts on who might be behind PURE, picking up the rather substantial bill for developing a new F1 engine?

It is linked to a company called TEOS Powertrain engineering and the people that are affiliated with them are Mecachrome and IFP energies nouvelles(IFPEN- French governement backed research company looking at alternate fules and energy recouperation).

Joe Saward did a piece on it not so long ago. I wouldnt read too much into alot of his blogs, but what he writes here is interesting as it appears based in fact rather than opinion.

Make up your own mind with this, but for me it is clear VW has no involvement.

Interesting JET, but those companies mentioned by Joe Sewer supplies engineering and production technology, but who's paying for the entire project, i.e. badging the valve covers, that is what is interesting? Hardly the French government i think.

Based on the article I think some french government cash is behind it in exchange for access to IP and facilities. The other cash is made up from loans and the other party involved. Projecting sales would be difficult to secure a loan, but with governmental involvement in some capacity would mean security for the bonds.

Also, from the whole setup I get the feeling these guys won't just be making F1 engines....

The French government to pay for the development of a Formula One engine to compete with partly state-owned Renault?

Somehow I doubt that.

Renault have their own interests.

Pure have a new idea and will venture further into alternate power than renault... Much like both PSA and Renault are competitors but both are heavily linked to French govenrmental investment.

Even their name suggests they are more than just an F1 engine maker. Like Cosworth, they will have other area of development, unlike Cosworth it will be more environmentally driven research.
This may have been an attractive proposition for those in power in francais...

But listen JET, developing an F1 turbo engine for 2014 with all the gizmos, MTUK and MTUH, from scratch without even having a customer lined up, who's gonna pay for that, some 50 - 100 MEUR I would guesstimate? Hardly the French government I'd say.
