McLaren MP4-26 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Ahhah! Well that makes a lot of sense, thanks for digging through.

Good Lord, is this still a Technical forum?
I thought optimum was still a technical term
Sure, but I don't think any of us are fooled into thinking that any team has found the optimum. Whichever optimum is meant, on what tracks, at what temperatures.

Can anyone get a clear picture of the new rear wing – I've been trying and trying to see it, but the camera man seemed intent on showing us JB's visor.

And so far from FP1, looks like the short-chord flap was used in the wet:

Slightly OT, but I just hate the way Vodafone looks scrunched up now on the rear wing flap

rake is not the same everywhere on the track .The new philosophy introduced by RedBull is to keep the rake also with higher speeds and not let the rear sag and take a set .

they've brought two different types of short chord wings to spa, the same one we've seen them testing since silverstone ad a new one thats even skinnier which im surewill have an immense top speed. You can see the difference in the pics above.
Whitmarsh said to the bbc he thinks the skin ny wing is the better choice but it comes down to what the drivers think.

any news on other updates? i thought they had a few.

They seem to have bolted on a bit more DF, considerably more than Mercs and Vettel. Factor in the wet conditions and I'm sure we have yet to see anywhere close to the potential of any of these cars.
