This old Monza film new to me. At about 2:10 you get a quick glimpse of Nuvolari's Auto Union in one of his signature power slides.

I disagree with you there Hampus. The modern cars are positivly luxurious compared to the older cars. Look how high up the car is and how skinny the wheels are! Must have been a bit scary at times.

Those AutoUnion and the Mercedes both had so much steering wheel vibration that combined with hard steering to raise huge blisters even through gloves. They had to soak their bloody hands after a race.
Not to mention that every time the got in the car it could be their last.
Watched a video recently that an announcer used a phrase I would apply to any of the early heros..
"He's got balls so big I don't know how he sits down"

But the reactions are way slower then a F1 car. The steering rack probably has way more angle so catching slides should be easier.
Overall the car would feel sluggish compared to a razorblade like modern F1 cars.

Normal people have trouble getting an F1 car around 1 lap because it´s incredibly hard to get temps in the tires and brakes.
And that´s just doing a lap :)
Doing a lap in that car is easy compared to a modern one.

With that said, i would presume everything that came with it is alot more scarier like sitting in a car with no belts, no helmet, no cozy cockpit, running at high speeds in city streets etc.

there´s no doubt that you would have balls the size of planets to drive in that time but my guess is driving the actual car is way way easier then todays.
It´s a totally different beast today.

On the straight toward Parabolica Kimi's engine sounds like the clutch is slipping and there's a peak in the revs, any ideas? I see also that they didn't use 7th gear either - reducing rotational mass to save power?
