With the amount of collisions in races, in particular Massa/Hamilton the most recent spat, could this be the solution.

Standardise the mirrors in size and positioning. As well as that, get a outside manufacturer to build them as well, meaning that they would have to be built to a standard where they do not shake and vibrate. Also have a standardised position for the mirrors as well, meaning the drivers have no excuses.

I think half the time the "I couldn't see him" line is just an excuse...

However, I've often wondered if Nissan's "All-around-view" parking system could be utilised... it uses multiple wide-angled cameras to generate a real time Birds eye view of your car... it really is quite impressive:-

The rearward visibility is an excuse in my opinion, there isnt anything really blocking your rearward view. Forward visibility is an bigger issue i believe, Front wing is invisible for you as driver. I think that they should add larger upward pointing bodywork, just like the indycars do, would be a good thing for 2014

Nah, not really. If you ever drove in a racing car you would know it's bloody loud in there, even in a 150ps car.
