HRT F111 Cosworth

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I said Midland, Minardi became Toro Rosso.
I know what you said. I also know minardi became TR. Many still loved minardi even though they were last constantly. They stuck it out for 20 years, that's real commitment.

True taht, but i dont get the feeling HRT will holding out for 20 years while being last. The formula has changed. Even if its for the worse, but if you dont get results within certains seasons ppl just stop and give up. That didnt happen back in the day, imagine if the Garageistas would have given up vs Ferrari in the 60s.

You are right about that for sure! F1 is a business more now than it ever has been. You can't race just cause you love the sport, you've got to be a success and quickly. Ultimately the people that control the purse strings call the shots.

I wondering which specification of Williams transmissions they will use in 2012? Will they use the current version they were using this year or they will use the new one. Williams will have Renault engine in 2012 and probably new mounting points for suspension and engine.

Theres a link in the F112 thread to a Q&A Session with someone at HRT (Cant remember who) and he states that they will use a 2011 Williams box.

Id recon that they will have a completly different gear case made for the CA2012 to the RS27 Williams are to run. The difference is seemingly quite minimal, its only arround 4mm on one bolt and 8mm on another to where the locator bolts are on the CA2012 and the RS27.

However the main area of diffrence is where all of the ancilaries are located and such, like where the electronics boxs ane such are located in relation to the exterior of the engine and transmission. But all of this can be crafted quite easily as Renault have supplied a engine to Williams for their gear case and they know what the Cosworth was like as thets what they had this year.

The diffrence is rumored to ab as little as 5%, and in F1 terms this is arround a tenth of a second tops.

All thats needed is for Williams to be beaten by a Hispania chassis with their 2011 KERS, their old engine and their current 2012 transmission. Now that would be embarrasing to Sir Frank.

Thanks for info. In this case the Williams could outsource the compelte package and HRT will just have to installed it and make sure that bodywork fits to new rear end internal design. Also they will have to design efficient cooling for the Kers unit.

The gearbox is ran by 25 Williams Grand Prix Engineering technicians, 4 mechanics per car at races, with another 2 data engineers. This is down to what Hispania learnt in 2010 with Xtrac as its better to have people from the gearbox supplier running their tech. Id recon that KERS will have 2 technicians per car and a 5th floating with a data guy for each car from WIlliam Hybrid Systems.

Embedding engineers is much better than having your own run bought in tech. Also means they help the team make a step forward as they want to beat their colleagues in the works team.

It's the 2012 gearbox that HRT are using for 2012.

Well their was a rumor that HRT would run a Renault engine in 2012 so this problem of making the new box fit the old engine may not arise.
