What do you think of the prospect of a USGP 2012 at Austin Texas

Good thinking. Place has good infra structure and nice climate in winter.

Not good as it has no motor sport tradition in the US.

Just got back from the site. The weather isn't that bad, but they've still not fully re-engaged. It was basically dead out there except for 1 crane installing re-bar into holes for the pit building piers.

It is this simple: Hellmund held the rights to the F1 contract. He entered into a deal with the investors. The investors put in the seed money and that began the construction. Hellmund was bound by the contract for the partnership to assign over the F1 rights. He never did. He claims Bernie would not let him reassign it. That was news to Bernie. After Bernie was better informed of what was really occurring in Austin, he revoked Hellmund's contract. Hellmund was in the room when Bernie offered the new contract to the investors (this is widely reported). That contract apparently was incredibly tough. Remember though, this was when Bernie thought the investors were being unfair (when Hellmund was not telling Bernie the truth). Once Bernie was fully informed, he revoked Hellmund's contract and began dealing with the investors in a more fair manner.

WhiteBlue - what did i get wrong??

Oh yeah, as far as Hellmund buying out the investors, let's think about this guys. He retained the F1 rights. How do we know this?? B/c Bernie had to do a deal with the investors. Why would Bernie have to do that if they already had a contract together? So hellmund has the F1 rights...why wouldn't he work with the people who would help him buy out the investors and go build another track somewhere in TX? Why would he NEED to buy out the investors? Very odd statement by Hellmund.

Hellmund was receiving a very large 6 digit salary...and then he moved out of the offices. He was offered a large 7 digit buyout, but he did not accept it. There is no reason to feel sorry for him. Yes, he got us fans to this point...but he clearly got greedy. He wanted more. He didn't realize that though you have the deal, money trumps. The money guys always get paid back and then some. The idea guy gets money too...just not as much as the money guys.

It's a shame, but hopefully he learned not to be so greedy next time. He would be a millionaire right now but for greed.

On another note, and i look forward to WB and HS responses: what is going to occur with the MotoGP contract Hellmund has? Is he going to hold that up like F1? Or is he going to make a deal and finally make some money.

No idea. I've asked the same question myself. WeWillSee.

And by the way, if anyone from COTA wants to pay me to renew my debate with HS, just send me a PM. I'm not so proud.

I might need some popcorn.

But I'd also have to wonder what Tavo's attorney would hope to gain by having a sock puppet on F1tech.

Regardless, I guess I'm glad my posts have been liberally sprinkled with a lot of I think's, in my opinion's, and if so's - just in case, you know.

Don't know what to make of this really, though I do have the impression that HS had a pre-fab agenda in his staunch defence of Hellmund, while there was never any doubt in my mind who was to blame for the hiccup which now seems to be rectified?

Pretty much everything, I would say. First of all if you have information from sources and have formed an opinion you should quote the sources or at least use a public identity and wage your own reputation on claiming confidential sources. Then it becomes clear what can be considered information and what is your own theory. At least that is the way you will be respected as a participant on this board.

Hairy has been contributing from the start of this thread to the information of the forum members and he introduced himself clearly as a member of the Austin F1 fan group. He started lobbying the politicians by asking all fans here and on other F1 boards to send letters and emails to the decision makers during the string of committee hearings. He proved to have excellent local information but never posted anything that could be considered inside information. In my view he has a rock solid reputation of knowing the Austin project from day one as an interested local. He has visited the building site many times and posted reports.

Sadly you are not measuring up and I personally will disregard your input until I see you changing to an acceptable way of backing up your rather fantastic sounding posts with sources. Although I don't agree with anything on the issue of the Austin project with Pup I do agree with him regarding your credibility and your inappropriate behaviour.

It's like watching the special Special Olympics.

We do know that this whole thing is over, right? That the race is on?

Still on the humor trip, Pup? I'm the last guy who can be criticised for not using sources and proper quotations. In fact I have been often attacked for documenting facts and posting too many sources. But the experience shows that many issues come up time and again. So it helps to document facts and prevent the kind of myth building that Taco seems to be a fan of.
