Post here all non technical related topics about Formula One. This includes race results, discussions, testing analysis etc. TV coverage and other personal questions should be in Off topic chat.

What do you think of the prospect of a USGP 2012 at Austin Texas

Good thinking. Place has good infra structure and nice climate in winter.

Not good as it has no motor sport tradition in the US.

Sadly, not an opinion widely held in these parts.

Not even in Ron Paul's camp?

The key phrase then is widely-held. His camp has about as much chance of affecting change as I do and for very good reason.

Really? Whats the alternative? Seriously? Bombing Iran? Indefinitely incarcerating everyday citizens like BOTH major parties are wildly in favor of? You have no choice in this country except Ron Paul, or bombing more brown people. That's the ugly truth.

Large property owners or developers like the Indian GP and New Jersey GP owners can substantially increase the value of the surrounding properties.
You're wrong WB...The track will destroy property values...That's how it works here...the noise, traffic etc makes it undesirable to live near by.
In Fact..if built...In ten years people will build housing tracts somewhere near by and then those who buy the homes will sue to have the track shut down. ;)

This is the truest statement I've ever seen on this website.

Hey, I just said that a page ago.

I've heard that chorus before. Usually around Spa.

And, Ray, you and I are somewhat on the same page re: the politics of it all. Without really diving into such a divisive topic, you're right insofar as there really isn't an alternative anymore to insanity. So, I choose apathy. It works for me.

Yeah, I agree. But the man is only batshit crazy in that he's not exactly like everyone else in Washington. Which is a nice breath of fresh air. He's got my vote. Whatever that may be worth ](*,)

Back on topic.. An excerp from Bernie interview with David Frost...has this been posted..
When Frost asked if he expected F1 to be big in the USA in ten years time, the response was instant: “No” said Ecclestone.
“We've got a maximum of two races in America,” he continued, “when you consider the country is as big as Europe and we've got several races in Europe, it's difficult. If we had a lot more races there and a lot more television it would be okay. It's a bit like the rest of America in that they want to see a profit before they start something and it's not easy to do that, especially when I am charging them an obscene amount of money”

It's been posted; a page back, I think. And it's an altogether honest interview.

Yep, I hate quote falsification.

Most of the anti Bernie and Max stuff is rubbish. 99% of the people who criticise them have no clue of economics, business or the history and technologies of GP racing. They just repeat sound bites that have been farmed out on the internet for years. None of these yokels even knows the difference between equity and debt.

No surprise that Bernie created his personal fiefdom in the F1 world with dictatorial or imperial powers.
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best .............................. organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

I agree WB, the only truth known to the public is that the latter is an S&M afficinado with a fascist history and the former is a used-car salesman who was seduced and taken for a billion-dollar ride by a six-foot-two agent for the croatian mob.

Surely the truth is a little more positive than that, they are only humans after all?

And YOU do have a clue?
That's a joke.
You wonder why you are the butt of insults...you get what you give.
And Bernie started off selling used motorcycles BTW....with every set of handlebars cocked exactly the same way.
He was known as a rip off artist back then and nothing has ever changed.

Given the legal troubles that Bernie is currently in, I'm not sure he knows all the rules either. You don't have to do business with the man to know he's an evil, back stabbing little ---. The man essentially wrote himself in as a dictator, and there's never been a dictator that's ever been anything less that the worst person to do business with. He'd be right at home in the Mafia.

EDIT: Also, I have huge respect for Max. Whatever goes on behind his closed doors, not matter what it is, is his business and no one elses. Shame that he got outed like that, he wasn't a public advocate of anything that was videotaped and that was his private dealings and should have never been showed to anyone much less the world. I'm of the belief that what happened to him in that whole thing is the reason his son committed suicide. Stealing that mans private life for tabloid rag exposure killed his son. There is absolutely NOTHING okay with what was done to him and the grief and ultimate end to the life of his son.
