What do you think of the prospect of a USGP 2012 at Austin Texas

Good thinking. Place has good infra structure and nice climate in winter.

Not good as it has no motor sport tradition in the US.

Is it really worth losing what could be a great race/venue for the sheer glee it would give you to rub our faces in it?

I'm not doubting you at all. I mean I know there are various vocal minority groups who'd LOVE to see this race fail for various misguided reasons. Fighting the naysayers is the very reason I began posting here and on a few other boards months ago.

I just wondered who you were referring to in particular. Anyone here?

On topic...
I am often amazed at how fast they can throw up buildings and do things like lay asphalt provided they have the money to hire the manpower.
Things seem to slog along til they get all the foundation work done, then zip zap zing, it all comes together.
There is still plenty of time if they put their nose to the grindstone.
I seem to recall thet the F1 track at Indy was a down to the wire thing.
If they want it done, it will get done.

It sounds like the V8 Supercars race will occur in Austin. It has thankfully been saved. I hear Tavo has the MotoGP contract but wont hand it over. We lose and the really big loser is his (supposedly) best friend: Kevin Schwantz. I say supposedly b/c who would block their friend from such a deal? Hope it works out like the F1 deal did. It'll take time but it can be fixed. Maybe Kevin will cut the deal and take care of his friend? We shall see.

Tavo owns the Aussie V8s rights.

Tavo and Kevin own the MotoGP rights together. If they won't "hand over" the rights, then they're doing that together, and presumably for a reason.

Did you see the stories about Schwantz delaying the move of his riding school from Georgia to Austin due to the construction delays in Austin? I doubt he's feeling all warm & fuzzy about COTA at this point, either.

...or even finding the US on a world map for that matter. I was once asked by a Texan; "Which state is that?", when I had xplained that I was from Sweden.

I replied jokingly it was just east of Maine, which prompted the Texan's friend to snipe at him; "You didn't know that?"

You're funny. There's no shortage of ignorance no matter where you go.

Word on the street in Elroy is that construction (which is already fairly busy) is gonna be picking up significantly after New Years....so I'm guessing they're getting another distribution of cash a la the one they got in October between the two work stoppages.

Here are a bunch of new photos taken today by my buddy Vance at Friends of Formula 1 Austin Texas on Facebook:

Here's a sample. Enjoy:

Looks like they've also begun night work on the pit building:

Reminds me of when I was in PA, breathing down the workshop's foreman's neck, doubting he would make it on time.

When the machinery somehow magically materialized, on time and on the floor, tested and all, I inquired;

"How did this come together?"

When he laconically responded;

"Just like that"
