CaterhamF1 CT-01 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Why is it so much more effective to have a ugly bump in the nose? Isn't it better to lower the nose a little to get a better airflow above the nose?
Read my post above yours!! But We all know ideal solution doesnt exist! And secondly they keep last year push rod suspentions geometry... They just play with stering arm... Trulli last year hae huge problems with power stering, mxbe is that reason to that changes...

I believe its something to do with the minimum surface area of the front of the tub. As the designers want to keep the underside of the nose and tub as high as possible to maintain good airflow to the front of the floor/bib splitter due to the new regulations they have to get creative with shapes. The u shape top surface takes up more of the minimum circumference of the noseconce/tub transition which means the sides of the nosecone can be shorter meaning the underside remains as high as possible.
In fact it's all to get as much air as possible underneath the car.

I can't imagine the FIA has done this on purpose, it's very ugly, no one 'll look to this F1 car and say "what a racing beauty".

My opinion is that the FIA has failed to get the drivers a better viability.
The view isn't better and they made it more ugly..

I guess they 'll change the rules during the season, like always, hateful!

The aim wasn't to give drivers better visibility, it was to stop the nose being higher than the side crash structures, and hence stop them (easily) entering the cockpit in a crash.

Indeed, they just took the old wing and fitted it to the new car.
I also think the exhaust position 'll change before Melbourne.

Should have added some teeth in the livery as Jordan did

If there is a litte bump in the surface of the track, the car still won't hit the crash structure at the right place in a crash.
I still prefer [lower noses of 2005 era]

I still prefer tis kind of nosees:
Agreed – this is why in 2014 noses have to be even lower – the tip has to be beneath the vertical centre of the wheels.

Me like! I hope the regulations 'll describe an angled forbidden area, or even a curved one, instead of a horizontal rectangular forbidden area like the 2012 rules.

Please stop the "ugly" talk, a contemorary F1 car never is ugly to me, I am happy that it exists.
And this Caterham looks really distinctive imho, a bit Mi-28 a bit Mister Croc.

And I see it like Amouzouris:
so what if its ugly??...the fact that it will probably be ugly has no relevance really to F1!! besides i'm the kind of guy who things that the fact that everything is shaped for a purpose makes it a piece of beauty!!
I think alot of the old F1 cars are ugly, because they are kind of square and the shapes don't look very high tech. And if you want brutal looking racingcars watch JGT or another touringcar or GT championship. If you need beautiful cars go to the Aston Martin dealer near you.

But there are things that realy are out of proportion! I prefer a combination of "form follows function" and natural good looking curves.
But this doesn't look good at all!

You're just saying that every shape that is passed a wind tunnel or a CFD-computer is beautiful.

It pleases me to know that other people think too that the ugly talk is nonsense!! F1 is about speed and design that functions..the wcc wont be given to the most beautiful car..

TBH i dnt think this car is that ugly...most of the cars will have a similar nose IMO, but you never know. I'm just happy to see a new car. Its that time of the year again! :D
