CaterhamF1 CT-01 Renault

Gascoyne said: "The rules for the lower noses have dictated a development direction and I'm sure we won't be the only or the worst-looking one out there.

"I think it's going to be a common theme.

"They want to limit the heights of noses for the shunts when a car hits another car's tyre and (risks) taking off.

But you still always want to get the (underside of the) chassis as high as possible to get as clean airflow under the car as you can - so the air coming off the front wing has reduced blockage and gets to the leading edge of the underfloor with as much energy as possible. That dictates the look you see on our car and I'm sure you'll see on most others. That shape of the chassis has become reasonably standard.

So i guess this is the end for the low nose lovers.
Noses will always be as high as possible.

I like the back of this car, it's clean. Wonder how long it is?
For Sure!!

The pic is rather dark; I can just about make out the leading edge of the undercut though; it's not that deep.

As I see it, red and yellow here are the upper and lower wishbones respectively, and I *think* green is the pull rod... What I can't see, is the drive shaft, or am I missing something?

I'd expect it to be where the cyan line is, but there's nothing there.
The pull rod is better seen in this pic

Weird tho if we look at the nose cone closely it doesnt seems to be as steep as the view from the side!

There is something almost throw-back to the style of the nose, like one of the aberrations from the 70s or something. It gets points for simply appearing different, but if Gascoyne is to be believed, this is going to be the new 'spec.'

OH MY WORD...

Every -single- year you think F1 cars can't get any uglier. And every -single- year you laugh out loud when you see it.
F1 car width now 2.0m (same as 1993-1997). Lets go crazy and bring the 2.2m cars back (<1992).

Yep, clearly they're getting uglier every year:

Sorry, nothing to do with the new Caterham, I just hate the level of hyperbole people use when either talking about ugly F1 cars, or the rules.

WOW!!!!
I heard that the 2012 cars were going to be ugly but I wasn't expecting them to be quite like this!
Barring the BMW Sauber F1.09, this has got to be the ugliest nose I've ever seen on a F1 car.

Even though it's ugly, one of the things I love about F1 is the innovation and the fact that the cars are always changing and rarely look the same as the year before.
I love this time of year when the teams are surprising us with the look of their cars.I agree with those that say that a fast car is a beautiful car and I'm not really bothered by this look - I actually find it very interesting.

This car looks very tidy and neat to me - the sidepods look amazing - very compact and tight.
Of course we never know until the first race but this car looks like it could surprise us.
If looks fast, I think that it's going to do well, I'm betting that it's going to beat Williams, Sauber and TR and place Caterham firmly in the midfield.

Whatever happens, it looks like a big step forward from 2011 and I think it's going to put more distance between Caterham and HRT and Marussia.

Same wheel as last year, with the Team Lotus logo taken off the padded bit in the middle.

 - now that's ugly!!!!
Today's cars are beauties next to cars from the 70's!
That was a decade of really ugly F1 cars but also a lot of very interesting innovations.
I am just so glad that F1 cars no longer have those massive airboxes!!!!!
The most ridiculous example of this is the Ligier JS5.
Now that's a really ugly F1 car! - the CT-01 is a beauty by comparison.

I'm glad they called it the CT-01, that was the name I was predicting =D> :D

My reference for a curvaceous car is this one:

But if you think the 2012 Caterham is a sexy car by all means you're free to do so.
The same way that I'm free to throw up when I look at it.

PS: Even the 2012 Caterham's own designers are saying it's ugly.
