The intake isn't really round and nothing like Caterhams, its very similar to the r31 but looks a bit thicker. The Sidepods look smaller though and lower, wouldn't be surprised if they came with a double floor.

those intakes are quite small though. Almost like the F150th italia.

This works from the driver's input, not from the forces from the road surface.

The driver can modulate it by modulating his pressure on the brake pedal.

In no way is this thing reacting directly to external forces on the tyre surface.
Thats one interpretation and I'm sure thats what the FIA will use.
However it is part of the brake system so is the FIA banning brakes????
Brakes also alter the aerodynamics of a car and the brakes are driver actuated... :roll:

That does indeed look like a pair of intakes there... o.O that they showed that so early – also, that would explain why their side pods can be so small.

I can not see the crash structures in the picture
Edit: zooming in I can maybe see the upper rear one just in front of the silver radiator frame. Missing the other three though.

thats just the top of the chassis without the drivers head padding in place. The chassis also does not have seat in it so the mechanic is sitting on the floor exaggerating the height the of the rear of the cockpit

Mmm... no revolution here. The intakes don't look extra small to me (outer shell is missing), undercut is good, maybe they try this Toro Rosso idea, maybe it just looks like it because half the parts are not in place yet.
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.
