Post here all non technical related topics about Formula One. This includes race results, discussions, testing analysis etc. TV coverage and other personal questions should be in Off topic chat.

What do you think of the prospect of a USGP 2012 at Austin Texas

Good thinking. Place has good infra structure and nice climate in winter.

Not good as it has no motor sport tradition in the US.

Not too far away. I think it's on Jacobson Road just east of the property. It was taken by my buddy who also shot the photo I posted above. We co-admin Friends of Formula 1 Austin Texas on Facebook. Is that where you got it?

I hope they will finish the helicopter-pad at the track in time?

I thought I had already posted this here, but apparently not:

Williams said the rain was not enough to affect the overall construction schedule for the track, which is to be the site of the inaugural United States Grand Prix on Nov. 18.

"We've planned for rain events throughout construction," Williams said. "We saw what the regional (rainfall) average is, and we're coming off the worst drought in the area in years. We did not spend as many rain days early on in the project (as projected)."
So maybe the title for the story should be "Rain Doesn't Slow Work on Circuit of the Americas"?

Whether it affects the end result or not, the rain has definitely slowed construction. It's still not back to the level of activity we saw before the rain. Work is pretty much limited to the paddock area and we're just now starting to see a slow trickle of trucks arriving to fill some areas of the track that are dry enough.

They may finish at the same time they have planned, but they'll have to work that much harder, and some rain days they planned into the latest schedule will now be gone. There's going to be more rain this winter and spring.

No...instead they wasted precious dry weather days with weeks of delays and slowdowns. It's not like there are rain days in the bank because it didn't rain for so long. Had they worked throughout, then they could honestly make that claim.

That's the worst of it, that the place sat idle for so long during perfect construction weather without a drop of rain.

What we know from the story is:

A) it rained and, B) construction is on schedule.

From that, you argue that:

C) construction is behind schedule and, D) it will be delayed even further. [And you toss in E) they're behind schedule for other reasons, too. I don't know why.]

Now, B obviously disproves both C and E directly; nor does A even imply C; and finally, D does not follow from either A, B, E, or any combination thereof.

Try again?

LOL. Where did I say c, d, or e in either of those posts?

Of course they're on schedule according the most recent version of the plan. Whenever they make the new plans, they're not going to make one that won't fit the timeline unless it's utterly impossible to do otherwise. Sometimes even not then. Hell, the article even points out the workers' time lost. The rain slowed things down & that's what I said. I don't see any way to claim otherwise. They still aren't back to full speed. Will they get there? Of course.

You post here and on Atlas, and perhaps elsewhere, as a supporter of the race, yet you not only seem have a perverse joy in reporting bad news, but have a habit of twisting any news to present it in as negative a light as possible. Were I a skeptical person, I might think that you have other motives than what you state.

You aren't helping yourself Pup. There's no c, d, or e in any of those quotes. Don't know what to tell you. There just isn't.

I post on 6 or 7 f1 boards, but I haven't heard of Atlas. Does it go by any other name?

I get no joy from reporting bad news, but I'm not going to hide it either. I post the good and the bad, both here, elsewhere, on Twitter (@austin_f1), and on the FB page I co-admin (Friends of Formula 1 Austin Texas). Don't believe me? Check em out.
