Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

I'm wondering if the biggest performance gains are to be had under the body work. In the presentation they said they had analysed every component for weight/performance presumably to better able to tune the weight distribution to maximise tyre performance and longevity.

The aero is always the talking point but with such big gains to be had with tyre performance could the internals be where McLaren have pushed the boat out?

Really pleased to see a conventional nose too.

If I'm honest; the car looks, to me, more like an evolution of the MP4-25 than of the MP4-26

The sidepods look very similar from the 'almost birds-eye view', would the 25 sidepods be more suited for the coke bottle finish rather than the u-pods?
WWKD- What would Kimi do?

looking at the overhead pics, shes still got a fat arse. I don't know why they don't go for a tight rear end like red bull or caterham this year

This exhaust has me confused. It appears streamlined to a specific purpose but I feel like something is missing at the back. Perhaps Scarbs hypothesis is worth looking into in that Mclaren have something ready to bolt to the brake duct. Perhaps working with the exhaust

Also, the top of the sidepods have a good amount of dihedral which tells me they have the packaging for this car sitting rather high almost like W02. I understand this is in the name of allowing more air around the floor and lower sidepod area but I hope the high CoG packaging doesn't effect them.

The sidepods remind me of the BGP01

Tim Goss said in an interview McLaren will bring updates at the 3rd test.

Also here's a different interview with Lowe & Goss regarding the MP4-27

Yeah, Scarbs was there in person, so he should have a good look at the car.

I espect that the exhaust-bulge we see on the car to have a lot of iterations during testing. It looks like that part is easily interchangable with other bulge-variations which have different exhaust positions and/or shapes.

Are they running a shorter wheelbase for the MP4-27?
