Ferrari F2012

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

However, the greater height beneath the nose does produce increased potential to drive airflow to the leading edge of the sidepods for more downforce.

But it also raises issues with the car's centre of gravity. To make this lower, Ferrari has innovatively opted for a pull-rod front suspension, which places the heavy metal rockers and springs lower down. The team has also reported a small aero gain for this suspension layout.

He was talking about the lower CoG resulting from the front pull rod system, not the rear. High nose, lower seating position, pull rod front suspension = lower CoG.

Hmmm,
lower torsion bar springs and rockers but higher drivers legs which probably weight more....So I can't buy into CoG position.
More than likely easier to package an inerter in the front suspension under the drivers legs than over them.

I am refering to the front suspension.,

to move the mechanics of the suspension lower in the tub they have to displace something. In this case the drivers legs are higher because the pedal box will have to be raised.
If the driver is seated higher that will also result in a higher CoG since we're talking about raising around 68Kg a few centimetre

But it still beats high nose with push-rods though.. But yes the Cog Influence could be secondary benefit when compared to aero benefits.

If Lotus (Renault) can take Adrian Sutil to court for GBH, can I now take Ferrari to court on the grounds of assault (to my eyes)?!?!

This monstrosity is horrific. You know the FIA have made a mess with the regulations when The Scuderia can't even manage to produce a beautiful car with them (What a way we've come from the F10 #-o )

That all being said I'm impressed and intrigued with the rear of the car. And the front pull-rod suspension. I hear it's the first time we've had pull-rods on an F1 car at the front in 10years (although I would have assumed it was longer as I cannot remember a 2002 F1 car with pull-rods at the front! - It must be longer than that!)
