Ferrari F2012

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Swapping rear wings for a DDD - horrifying thought, but are the downforce levels really equivalent? I wouldn't be surprised either way.

no idea, but I'm sure if there were a DF deficit, it wouldn't be long before it was clawed back!

I think it's interesting to see the two cars fade between each other and see the very similar exhaust position. They appear to follow a similar line and perhaps trying to do a similar thing with the airflow from around the side pods
.
Just measured the tires and the 27's are slightly smaller than the F2010.

the 2012 is about 10cm longer than the f150, it has the same wheelbase of the mp4/26 and the mp4/27

Looking at the rearview pictures it seems as the diffuser is very high? Much higher than the McLaren?

I know they are probably just model floors/diffusers but still caught my attention??

The F2012's FW appears too close to the ground. It would break off going over the first curb. Probably just a product-shoot Photoshop shadow, or strange setup for a good picture.

I agree totally with you. I've posted it for the difference of the nose and the suspension...

Yeah I think that was more or less just for the launch. But we never know as that's the last part teams want other teams to see.

@Vol yes it looks way too low in one picture but it's just that particular pic.

It's because of reflection from the floor. Here are better pic of how high the FW is.

the engine cover looks like the one of the w01, even the airbox is triangle shaped.

Image

from the top of the car, you see how the sidepots are close to the ones of the w02

So F2012 is a bit of W01 for airbox, a bit of W02 for the beginning of the sidepod, maybe a bit of MP4-26 for the back of the sidepods & beam wing, a bit of FW31/MP4-26 for gearbox cooling, a bit of RB5/6/7 for rear pullrod, a bit of PS01 for front pullrod and a lot of ugliestthingever for the whole nose.

What a mess

You know there's something wrong when the lego F1 car is more curvaceous than the actual, supposedly aerodynamic, F1 car.

As the airflow on top of the nose will end up in contact with the drivers helmet is it not as detrimental as one would imagine?

Re: Ferrari F2012

Looking at the race number and the red helmet, it should be the F248F1 :D

More seriously concerning the sidepod entries, it seems that only the top is arched on the contrary of W02. And I am pretty sure Ferrari already ran something similar (maybe not as extreme). F2007 maybe ?

edit : after checking maybe not after all...
