I don´t get how someone can be as uninspierd in adopting to a new reg.
Why not turn the snowplow design upside down and divide the airstream from the nose towards the sides = sidepod inlets ?

this would surely look ALOT better and serve a purpose without only just adding drag....hopefully Mercedes will have that solution..

But hey ..they have pullrod front ...It was just a matter of time when my lonely song found its way into reality...again not how I was expecting it to materialize but anyways.

I think this view of the airflow above the step in the bulkhead lacks the view from above. Since the air is not hindered to go wide this will most likely cause vortices. When viewed from above the deflection of the airflow will be much broader.

Is does remind me a little of the airflow they created with the hole in the nose in 2007(?)

This brings me to another question:
Back in the early days of steam engine lokomotives, they started to have a problem with their view forward once they reached high speeds (>200kph). The vortexes that were created on the leading edge of the lokomotives significantly bend their line of view forward. This is why the high speed trains then had wings installed on the front sides to counteract this phenomenon.

Now, if the conditions are right (high humidity) can these vortexes create the same type of distortion? These would be right in the line of sight of the pilots. Considering that todays F1 pilots have little margin when it comes to their breaking points and that they determine them purely by eye sight, such a disturbance could be highly unwanted.

I think it isn't a stupid question. I would say that air increases its volume.
Other ideas guys?
And increase airflow speed...

Purpose of this air vent config is to increase air flow in area between brake duct wing (blow efect>downforce directed on the wheel) and side edge of difozor (mazbe little seal efect>similar EBD function, but oa lot less efective)...

Yeah nice idea, but that will not to satisfied crosssection rule! 275mm

Does someone has a high res picture of the side of the car and more specifically the side pods area, the more I see the pictures the more I think they tried to feed more air under the car by creating two small vanes on the bottom on the sidepods. We can see the ground trough those holes so it is for sure not for cooling purposes. And again this could the story around a special floor on the F2012.

I'm sure all the pictures available at the moment are at this thread already.
Anyway f1fanatic.co.uk has everything.

The answer might be in the name of these "side wings" you refer to; they are known as 'smoke deflectors'. So the problem they solved is not likely to be an issue in an F1 car, except maybe the R31 ;)

Here's a big(ger) side-by-sid comparison of the F2012 with the F150° Italia.

I'm sure they did their homework and the current design gave better numbers than the other options.(ie Force India, your idea etc.

Lense deformation would be on the top view, as clearly shown. The only way to tell is from a side on image directly at it

I was asking because in one of the videos Luca Marmorini mentinoed:

"We are try to develop the engine trying to alow much more extreme working temperature of water and oil..."

So what if they "plan" to overheat the air due to much warmer cooling system, to incerase the airfolow speed? Should be this posible? I got to this idea when I saw the cooling outpust + the sentence from the video + the relocated cooler + new intake on the top.
