don't know if already mentioned before in this post, but the nose tip in the F2012 is clearly behind the front wing leading edge: I think it's a first on recent F1 cars, what aero gains should this solution provide ?

Drivers should also be more careful during battles, especially not to hit from the back the car in front: with this solution they would definitely damage the front wing, while with the "long nose" if they are lucky they can get along with only a scratched nose tip...

both Lotuses experimented last year with nose tips shorter than the front wing

its not so much that the nose is shorter in length..it has little difference from last year's nose..the fw is moved forward because the wheels are also moved forward due to different suspension arm angles...

@amouzouris not really, more from one side of the car, anyway on this one we can see the ground across the two holes. Will have to wait first test for more pictures I guess.

From this photo it seems like the rear of the car is still basically the same except they relocate the exhaust but the intake is different.Instead of letting the air to flow around the sidepods the F2012 actually feature a 'scoop' shape that will allow more air to flow into the sidepods but this will induce drag. I wonder is that Ferrari was hindered by cooling issues or they are worrying the cooling of the car as the new car feature a new radiator layout. Hopefully the new car won't struck cooling problems like the Mercedes W02 which really cost the team lots of performance.

It's only due to the lense deformation. If you look at the pic from top, you'd see that nose tip is a little ahead FW

The nose cone is so short because of the height of the underside. Any londer a nose cone and it would have a wafer thin cross section hanging over the front wing.

Both are flawed to the point of uselessness because the pictures aren't taken from the same angle and distance.

Hello everyone. I've been a long time reader, always enjoyed the site and its board, and this is my first post.

As an Italian, hence a Ferrari fan, I'd love the F2012 to be a championship car, but just by looking at its pictures, it raises me many questions… For instance, that "needle" nose cone, will it flex and provide ground effect for the front wing?, will it last a whole race without cracking or breaking? (remember the fluttering and harmonic resonance in the front wing Ferrari experienced late last season?)

Will the team be able to make a hole in the nose bump, and redirect that air to the side pods or the floor of the car? (something like the 2008 nose hole).

My affection for Ferrari has never impaired my judgement, if they failed to produce a winning car in recent years, it wasn't due to bad luck, or esoteric conspiracies, but in their lack of ideas and courage to innovate.

Well, today FIA has published the new regulations for the front wing -> we can't see wings as flexible as last year. So I'd say that the problem doesn't exist.

The F2012 nose is certainly lower than the 150 Italia, whether that comparison is correct or not. Here is said site and it looks lower to me.
