Lotus E20 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The launch "car" doesn't seem to have anything to do with the track that's in Jerez, every detail and part looks different.

I read on Twitter a couple of hours back that the launch car was really just an R31 outfitted to E20 parts in certain areas; such as the nose and exhausts.

Yes, but not even those parts that are supposed to be E20 are really similar.

And you believe everything that is on twitter?

Compare the launch car with the photos of the car on track today. They are one and the same.

They are actually quite different.

Quite the opposite actually. As has been shown very recently in this thread.

I don't. But there are several sources that I have complete faith in.

The launch car shown yesterday was a R31 tub. Today, when Kimi rolled out of the garage, was the first time we saw an E20 chassis.

Re: Lotus E20 Renault

To sum it up (please, correct me, if I am wrong):

- different front wing
- different airbox
- different exhaust position and bodywork around it
- different splitter
- different details of the floor around turning vanes
- much more free space over the diffuser
- possibly different nose or two nose spec shaken down today
- possibly tighter sidepods with a bit smaller inlet and bigger undercut

PS I really like Kimi's helmet!

Re: Lotus E20 Renault

Actually, to truly sum up the differences between Launch & Shakedown spec:

- different car.

It was a sham of a launch. More to show off sponsors & launch 2012 for the team, rather than anything to do with the car itself.

To be honest, this thread should be cleared up until the shakedown photos; anything prior to that is absolutely irrelevant to the E20.

Great high res shot of the E20 rear & diffuser. Right click>view image

That diffuser looks much different than last years IIRC.
