Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Right. Let's get exhaust-spotting then.

Where are the exhaust outlets on the MP4-27 testing at Jerez? Are they the same as the bulges shown on the car at the official unveil a few days ago?

There's an image on autosport forum, looks very neat.

They still seem to be using the same looking exhausts they had at launch.

Do you think this is what they were trying last year with the octopus? Developments that failed last year are being used this year?

They've now got a legal exhaust but are pointing the gasses where they want them?

Saw this on autosport too. Very interesting. If i'm not mistaken, this style of cut ridge results in a vertical column plume

The first iteration of the exhaust bulge. Interesting idea. Is it legal to redirect exhaust flow in that way ? From that angle it looks like they're trying to blow brake duct fins. With that bulge, they really have plenty of options to try with exhaust redirecting.

The sidepod inlets don't look too big in that picture, there's a lot of flowing body work underneath them.
