Ferrari F2012

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I remember maybe tyrrell tried fitting four front wheels in hockenheim (1996ish) to reduce drag

A couple of reasons why I am feeling confortable about Ferrari this year:

- They are being honest, they recognised that they have issues but they are working on them.

Fans are the ones to blame, we asked for agressive approach, they do, obviously they have issues to adapt and we complaint.
If the car was similar to F150 we would be complaining about not having balls to be agressive. So let's wait a bit before conclusions.

- Second reason Redbull it is the one complaining about legality of Mclaren and Ferrari exhauts source:

I must be crazy but I seem to be the only one who thinks the Ferrari is a beaut!
I just love cars that stand out and look different.
I'm still perplexed about their decision to go with pullrods on the front.
Fry said that their was an aerodynamic benefit, albeit it a small one.
They seem to be in a position where they have a lot to learn about setting up this car so why didn't they just stick with something they knew rather than make things complicated for only a slight gain?

It's f1 so a slight gain could make all the difference. Being that radical all over the could would result in those slight gains adding up quite alot, which is what I think happened with teh Red Bull last year.

Yip; Arrows made the same point when they did it with the... A21 was it? Back in 2000? 2001?

However, they felt they did lose some controllability over the suspension itself in comparison to a pushrod. So I guess we'll have to wait to see if it affects Ferrari.

I suppose the aero benefit comes from having another means of damping out small scale eddies* lower down in the airstream where it matters (nearer the centre-line); by comparison the pushrod is much higher up in the air-stream at this point.

*as well as making a small contribution to reducing the upward velocity component of the front wing wake.

With rear suspensions typically being much softer than front in a car set-up; Red Bull (et al) may not have encountered this issue with the rear pull roads. But, again, its a case of wait and see...

As soon as some are out I'll put them up. There were other new parts too. Probably internal though.

and when was the last time you saw ferrari bodywork, or bodywork from any team for that matter, burn in a race? I can only recall reanualt last year and that was cause by engine issues.
Yellowing bodywork on this years Mercedes.
