Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

No, flexible body work is banned because it does exactly what they wanted to get rid of with fans/skirts/etc – it create wing in ground effect, and massively increases the amount of downforce the cars generate.

The lengthy discussion about the aerodynamic implications of nose apertures as air intakes has been moved to its own topic: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11898

Please stick to the car itself here.

When I watch the Red Bull's suspension and halfshaft arrangement I think... the season is already over.
Why can they build such beautiful stuff but not the others....

But please FIA, don't allow those brake duct fins!

I agree with you. so far for me the rear suspension is the most interesting part of the rb8, even if the front inlet draws more attention.

Omnicorse.it has made a brief article on that.

Can anyone else see the f duct esque slot exit on the main plane of that rear wing?!

Tons of money and the most fuel-efficient engine with the least need for cooling. Oh, and then there's the designer, guy named Newey. I hear he's pretty good.

I think you're seeing the reflection of a drive shaft.

What gets me is just how level the car is in spite of the loads on the suspension.

They actually do something similar in DTM where the basic frame of the car is a mandated spec part. It could work I guess.

They also do something similar in F1 with the underfloor plank.

If you change the livery to blue and white, you will see that the engine cover is shaped almost the same way as the williams, bar the key hole cooling exit.
Look on the flanks of the cover, then look on the williams.
That small renault engine may just do the trick aero wise for the williams team.

Eye to the triangle
The hole at the nose of the RB8? But what if the secret was in the terminals that blow toward the rear suspension? Here's how it works:

Terminals? Also, what does the article actually say? I remember some Latin back from school; but that isn't helping me much here

Theres no logical reason for that hole in the nose to duct air all the way around the cockpit, fuel tank, electronics, engine, etc just to blow what has now become quite restricted flow on the rear. If they were blowing the rear it would be from somewhere else.

But I can see it all the way along the main plane, and it wouldn't reflect at that point, surely? :?

When I will able to find a copy I'll translate you something. :D

Like what I said a few pages back, they seem to think the rear suspension arms aren't exactly right smack-bang in the middle of the exhaust exit for fun or to toast bread. The bit I can read, the central text, anyway.
