Ferrari F2012

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The interesting part of it is that the floor on f2012 is really glossy.

And paper-thin. Is this the so-called Byrne floor? I must admit that I haven't paid that much attention.

The sun is illuminating the white paint on the rear wing, and the glossy floor is reflecting that light.

C'mon, this is really up for debate?
Well, could be that there is pretty much nothing of note mentioned yet, and we are grasping at straws. Also, your quantification is an impossibility :P

Ferrari seem to be trying to counteract that rule by using the airflow over the sidepod to push the exhaust plume down.
I know; as the McLaren is reportedly doing too, no? But my point is; if it does do that; the section that DOES point up must be flimming short.

The Byrne floor is rumored to come up at second barcellona test and exploit "holes", whether geometrical or metaphorical. We discussed it here yesterday, there are independent sources pointing at it

i just had a thought..considering how glossy the ferrari floor is...is it possible that it is made out of some sort of metal??? then painted black and polished thus giving it the glossy look?? metal that may be heavier than cf but it is very low so it wouldn't harm CoG

I have seen some pictures of the floor from above showing fiber weave; but they maight have run more than on version of the floor so I do not know if what I saw is the glossy one

Looks like Flo-viz on the floor by the diffuser no? Or is it the glare from the green thing. Looks like maybe the strakes are placed differently, have to compare to Jerez.

yp! this only has two strakes... probably there are also some differences not easily visible to the shape of it...

Also notice the sides by the rear tyre. It's a full 90 degree edge, straight down compared to Jerez below
