Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

According to AMuS they "have mounted on the left and right roof diffuser, two stair-wing members of his own end plates. These are in any case additional output donor. The exhaust gases can then increase the pressure even more. Norbert Haug promises: < We are seeing a lot of development in this area>."

In that picture with the sparking FW it's so obvious that MSC has jumped the kerb it's not even funny; just look at the height of the kerb, the attitude of the car, the front right's contact patch, even Schuey's noggin....

It looks very composed for it though.

Interesting observation about the broken back; what regs are there tying the back end of the car to the reference plane? Could you really run a raked rear end and flat front? And why would you want to, given that the diffuser likes high fronts and you can't seal it with exhaust gas?

They also copied the bulb from RB, placed onto the floor (in the picture is high on the right side)

That is a classic optical illusion, IMHO. Look at the camber of the fronts. This car has a very soft front suspension. I like this car more and more.

The flexy monocoque is a thing i have pointed towards already over 2 years ago, albeit in reference to RedBull after they had notoriously cracked up tubs with RB5 and RB6.
If you can designa wing that is flexing in a prefered manner under load why should it be impossible to have your tub bending longitudinally under load and still maintain necessary torsional stiffness.

One thing to note about the spark picture: the front wing has metal plates affixed to the bottom of the "endplates." So, the wing is expected to make contact with the track.

As far the car's saggy appearance goes, I have no idea what that's about. I just noticed it and pointed out for other, smarter folks to chew on.

F1.com images seem to be all messed up today and pixelated. But here's what I assume is the Merc under the covers, apologies if it's not but it's nice to finally see a car without bodywork this testing season.

HAHAHAHA well, you could say tha it is an improvement :D Last year in Singapore....

http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2011/09/25/2 ... r-2011-13/

compared to anothe picture from today, which shows the W03 at the same corner the first "sparking front wing picture" was taken at, RIGHT after hitting the kerb...

We know Mike likes a really stiff car/set up. So he ain't gonna be happy with a lot of wallowing around.

the colour is nice, thats as much complements i can give this car right now.

Something about it looks doggish. Must be the thin nose the return of the chunky but tub and the burn marks.

The car also has almost the same design details as the W02. Details as in sub features, like the air intake, radiator intake, the way how the tub looks etc.

Lotus will whip these guys. Mercedes isn't ready yet.
For Sure!!
