COTA Austin - construction and infrastructure

Post here all non technical related topics about Formula One. This includes race results, discussions, testing analysis etc. TV coverage and other personal questions should be in Off topic chat.

What do you think of the prospect of a USGP 2012 at Austin Texas

Good thinking. Place has good infra structure and nice climate in winter.

Not good as it has no motor sport tradition in the US.

BTW, I mentioned the Alamo in the post above yours.

This thread has history of being rather provocative when it comes to nationality. So amusing as some of the name speculation may be, lets stick to constructive racing related themes please?

When I say constructive that means the "USF1 gravel trap" or "USF1 grill & canteen" and similar derogatory remarks are deemed inappropriate.

I'm trying to find a way to get ZZ Top into there somehow without using "Tush" or "Legs"...

Perhaps they can sell some of the surplus toasters at the merchandising stands. ;-)

I would also like to have JR in there somehow, what to you think about "Southfork", or perhaps "Cliff Barnes bend"?

I rather like "Mockenhiem" for the fiddly bit at the end of the lap.
Murray: "And there are flames coming from the back of Prost's car as he enters the swimming pool."
James: "Well, that should put them out then."

Meh. Even in its nascent state, nothing about the track necessarily looks retarded.

I've heard all of these from one person or another, and a lot more in the weeks after the initial announcement. Can't remember a lot of them.

"Phil Hill" for the Turn 1 hill is pretty popular. I'm pushing "Longhorn Straight" for the long back straight. Lots of mentions of Texas & North American drivers: Shelby, Foyt, Donahue, Gurney, Villeneuve, Andretti, Petty...
He mentioned Shel..hell there will have to be a Shelby straight.... and a Hall corner. Perhaps the A,J.Foyt communication center,,,cause he was such a good communicator...Rutherford straight? The Joie Chitwood chicane?
Plenty of drivers just from Texas.

Are they still shooting for a 2012 date or has it been pushed to 2013. Dont have time to read the whole thread right now.
