Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

This is another demonstration that the theory about blowing wishbones and brake duct fins is nonsense. It's all about cleaning up/energizing the flow over the top of the diffuser for better extraction of air from underneath the diffuser.

Front wing is a copy of the W03. look at those two turning veins next to the nose...exact copies.

I find the shape very interesting. It uses similar principles to a NACA duct but then it aims the stream directly at the wheel. Bizarre.

The channel is the same exact shape as McLaren's. Have you not seen McLaren's exhaust?? Redbull essentially copied Mercedes and Sauber's positioning and took McLaren's channel shaping.

Surely this is how they were going to go the entire time? The dodgy job they had with the heat shielding around the rear suspension at earlier tests points towards that for me anyways.

Red Bull used Ferrari Floor? W03 Front wing? and Sauber Exhaust?

More like, Mercedes front wing and exhaust positioning, Sauber's sidepod shaping and exhaust positioning, and McLaren's exhaust channel. No idea about the floor, but doesn't seem mindblowing to me like they made it out to sound...

Think this is a new pic. Its highlighted a new detail to me. The sidepods are even shorter than they look. They are extended with a bridge for the exhaust gasses but have a tunnel for the flow from the floor. Neat detail

Those wings on the floor look illegal as it clearly is an Aero feature.

That was more of the media than RB themselves, I believe.

I agree with your take on it. It's a bit of mix between different teams solutions.

I think that the air (name air A) in by the open of the step on nose.
This air flows to the diffuser through the sidepods and the tube (in yellow).
Air of exhausts (name air B) only serves to warm up the air A and in the diffuser blow a hot air.

That car is beautiful and copies no one.

(Development takes longer than would otherwise be the case, and we're far enough into this particular formula that convergence on similar solutions is inevitable.)
