Ferrari F2012

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

(For what it's worth, I don't think the Red Bull design would be terribly difficult to copy.)
You talking to me? I believe the exhaust the F2012 has today is a little different than yesterday.

@bhallg2k: Dammit I only read half of your post & never reread FIA definitions since several years ago #-o And it's not like I didn't know that I always read too quickly ](*,)
My bad...

So beam wing can extend the defined area in 3.10.1 while RW flaps must lie in area defined in 3.10.2. And passive f-ducts are allowed by the FIA regulation even if difficult to implement.

Interesting development in the sidepod-floor of he Sauber car..... seems they posted a cooling outlet in that zone. Look at the lower front side of the side pod.

If taken literally, the official language of the regulation would open up a host of possibilities, because when viewed from the side of the car all you see is the endplate.

I hope this makes sense. I often find it terribly difficult to visualize the images conveyed by the regulations, so I'm probably not very good at explaining them, either.
Nope because they are talking about cross section. It is not "Let's stand to the side of this car and check what our eyes can see" but "Let's get a side IRM of this car".
I know. I said that. You even quoted it. It's right there.

EDIT: You're also improperly defining "closed."

Code: Select all

1.21 Open and closed sections :

A section will be considered closed if it is fully complete within the dimensioned boundary to which it is referenced, if it is not it will be considered open.
The 100mm rule is the relevant one in this case.

funny to see them using catfood packing material on the sidepod insides...aluminiumsheet is reflecting radiant heat much better but then you have to use this when in Formula 1.. money talks...

In the pictures of the bodywork pieces in the box, I can not figure out where the one with the golden insulation on the inside will be fit. It seems to have a small oval hole, but I have norefercne for that.
The bulge does not remind me of anything I have seen on th f2012 till now. Does anybody have some idea about where that specific panel will fit?

Re: Ferrari F2012

I haven't seen any of the other top teams hacking away at their exhaust configuration like Ferrari is. Looking at some of the exhaust pictures posted earlier it seems like they have just hacked away at the bodywork with a rotary cutter, cutting away at the bodywork in hope that they find a good solution.

You then look at the other teams like McLaren and RBR or even MGP to a lesser extent and they have clean well thought-out solution to experiment with. You can at least see some thought and work has gone into it before testing.

To me this all reeks of desperation, engineers just trying anything that comes to mind in the hope that something will work.

I don't hold much faith in this car fighting for the championship from the start of the season, maybe later campaign but not from the start. I feel for Alonso.
