Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

What is of interest in that photo, is the 'telescopic' joint in the front wing pylons. Could there be some form of movement being catered for, here?

yup we've already seen the whole wing tilts backwards at speed slightly to reduce drag presumably.

Not sure about those two "openings" though, could well be a reflection due to the silver paint. Hopefully other angles will be posted which show what's actually going on

The openings are definitely not openings – the front wing pillars have to be a pair of closed sections symmetrical around the car centre line.

To be exhaustive:
and between 125mm and 200mm above the reference plane
Anyway I also think it is just a reflection. I think about the elements mounted on the FW main plane.

Yeah they removed the snowplough and added the more 'fancier' dolphin fins...
I remember in 2010, Mclaren once removed its Mp4 25 snowplough in Barcelona

Some slight modification to the front wing include the little curved parts on the end are ever so slightly more curved on the latest wing and the planes are slightly modified towards the inside. A whole new wing made just for some tiny geometry changes.

Side view confirms that there is no opening on pylons.
